The present invention features a human neurogenin3 (Ngn3) polypeptide and nucleotide sequences encoding Ngn3 polypeptides. In a particular aspect, the polynucleotide is the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1. In addition, the invention features isolated nucleic acid sequence comprising an Ngn3 promoter, as well as a polynucleotide sequences that hybridize under stringent conditions to SEQ ID NO:1. In related aspects the invention features expression vectors and host cells comprising polynucleotides that encode a human Ngn3 polypeptide. The present invention also relates to antibodies that bind specifically to a human Ngn3 polypeptide, methods for producing human Ngn3 polypeptides, methods for identifying -cell precursor cells expressing Ngn3, methods for using the Ngn3 gene and the Ngn3 polypeptide to alter cellular differentiation in culture or in vivo to produce new -cells to treat patients with diabetes mellitus, and identification of individuals at risk for diabetes by detecting alteration in Ngn3 coding and regulatory sequences and Ngn3 expression levels.
Disk Drive Including A Balancing Ring With A Balancing Weight Attached To A Lower End Of A Spindle Motor Hub

International Classification:
G11B 17/02
US Classification:

Abstract:
A disk drive includes a disk drive base and a spindle motor including a spindle motor hub, a spindle motor shaft and a stator. The hub includes an upper end and a lower end. The hub is rotatably coupled to the base via the shaft for rotating the hub about an axis of rotation. The lower end is disposed towards the disk drive base. The stator is attached to the base adjacent the lower end. A balancing ring is attached to the lower end of the hub about the shaft. The disk drive further includes a balancing weight attached to the ring. The weight is attachable to the ring through the disk drive base with the ring attached to the lower end of the hub. A method of balancing the hub is further provided using the ring and the weight.
Substantially enriched mammalian lung endothelial and epithelial progenitor cell populations are provided. Methods are provided for the isolation and in vivo differentiation of such lung progenitor cells. The progenitor cells are obtained from lung tissue, including fetal and adult tissues. The cells are useful in transplantation, for experimental evaluation, and as a source of lineage and cell specific products, including mRNA species useful in identifying genes specifically expressed in these cells, and as targets for the discovery of factors or molecules that can affect them.
Disk Drive Including Embedded Voice Coil Magnet Plates
A disk drive including voice coil magnet plates formed integrally with the base and/or cover of the disk drive. During the fabrication process, the steel magnet plates are placed in proper position in the base and cover die casting, and then the molten aluminum is injected to form the base and cover. As result, the magnet plates are integral with the base and cover and no fluid leakage can occur around the boundary between the top magnet and cover, or around the boundary between the bottom magnet and base. Thus, the disk drive is sealed against the external environment.

Abstract:
An arcuate scan tape drive for transferring data to and from a data tape, including a base with four side walls and a cover, which base and cover together have a 31/2 inch form factor. In one embodiment, the head carrier assembly is provided at an oblique angle with respect to the data tape and the front surface is conically shaped. Thus, during rotation of the head carrier assembly, the recording heads are proximate to the data tape during read or write operations, but are spaced away from the data tape at other times. The head carrier assembly includes an inside-out spin motor for rotating the head carrier assembly and a pivot motor structure at the rear of the head carrier assembly for pivoting the head carrier assembly in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of advancement of the tape. The spin motor and pivoting structures receive servo signals from a controller so as to continuously adjust the position of the core elements with respect to the data tape so as to align the core elements with the arcuately-shaped data tracks.
An under-the-hub spin motor for a disk drive includes a stabilizer for supporting the outer diameter of the stator to stiffen the base of the spin motor. Stiffening the base in the region surrounding the shaft of the motor increases the resonant frequency of the spin motor, increasing the tolerance of the spin motor to applied vibrations. The stabilizer may be a ring formed integrally with the base plate of the disk drive or the mounting flange of the motor.

Abstract:
An arcuate scan tape drive for transferring data to and from a data tape, including a base with four side walls and a cover, which base and cover together have a 31/2 inch form factor. Situated within the base and cover is a head carrier assembly for recording data onto and playing back data from the data tape which advances in a longitudinal direction past the head carrier assembly. Also provided within the base is a capstan motor assembly for advancing the data tape, and a cassette positioning mechanism for receiving and securing a data tape cartridge to properly position the tape as it is advanced past the head carrier assembly. The head carrier assembly includes an inside-out spin motor for rotating the head carrier assembly and a pivot motor structure at the rear of the head carrier assembly for pivoting the head carrier assembly in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of advancement of the tape.
