Abstract:
Method of joining two abutting metal members together by a single reciprocating head having a first part for lancing and forming and having a second part for staking, the method comprising the steps of supporting the members in abutting relation with support structure, advancing the head toward the supported members to cause the first part to lance and form a part of one of the members through an unblanked part of the other of the members while the members are supported by the support structure in opposition to the advancing movement of the head, thereafter withdrawing the head from the members, and then advancing the head a second time toward the supported members to cause the second part to stake the lanced and formed part of the one member to the other member and thereby secure the members together while the members are supported by the support structure in opposition to the second advancing movement of the head.
