Abstract:

A combination card dealing shoe and protective guard plate is disclosed. An improved card follower device is also included for more effective control of the cards when the shoe is in use. The guard plate may be formed integrally with the shoe or it may be fabricated as a separate item for retrofitting attachment to an existing shoe. The plate is bifurcated and the two parts are joined by a hinge with a coil spring which urges the lower portion of the cover plate downward and inward to substantially cover the finger opening in the front panel of the shoe to conceal the card which is in position ready for dealing. The hinged portion of the cover plate has a projecting member defining an opening which is sufficient to give the dealers thumb and/or finger access to the shoe without exposing the card that is being dealt, thus preventing one type of cheating by a dealer.

Abstract:

A gardening device facilitating the planting of seeds, bulbs or the like includes a platen member having two opposite sides and a plurality of pegs releasably secured to one side of the platen member so as to project therefrom. A carrying handle is attached to the other side of the platen member for facilitating placement of the platen member upon and removal of the platen member from the soil. When the platen member is placed one-side-down upon prepared soil so that the pegs engage the soil and a moderate amount of pressure is applied to the other side of the platen member and generally toward the soil, the pegs penetrate the soil so as to form indentations therein. Upon removal of the device from the soil in a manner withdrawing the pegs from the indentations, the indentations provide formed openings in the soil for accepting seeds or bulbs.

Abstract:

An inexpensive and easy to install and use door security apparatus which comprises a bar extending, in a first position, across the width of the inner side of the door and having end portions which extend beyond the door edges respectively. Brackets attached to the frame portions hold the end portions against the respective frame portions to counteract a force applied to the outer side of the door during an attempted forced entry. A handle is attached to the bar for pivoting it to another position clear of the door so that the door can be opened. The handle extends through the respective frame portion so that it may be operated from the outer side of a door and is lockingly secured to prevent unauthorized persons from operating the handle. In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, at least two locking assemblies are provided with at least one locking assembly provided along each vertical edge of the door. Each of the locking assemblies comprises a pair of members one of which is attached to the door adjacent the respective edge and the other of which is attached to the respective frame portion.

Abstract:

A miniature anti-siphon valve is disclosed which is of inexpensive manufacture, requiring only three parts which may be molded rather than machined. The valve will close to prevent reverse fluid flow when either pressure in the supply line drops below ambient air pressure or fluid flow into the valve outlet occurs. The valve operates regardless of its physical orientation, and in one embodiment may include a nozzle for use with a bidet.

Abstract:

A high efficiency, compact muffler apparatus for use with internal combustion engines comprises a tubular muffler housing internally divided into first, second and third longitudinal chambers by first and second transverse wall partitions. An exhaust inlet duct base axially through the upstream housing end into the first chamber and an exhaust outlet duct extends axially through the downstream housing end through the third chamber to the downstream side of the second partition. A pair of diametrically spaced, internal ducts, open at both ends, project longitudinally, out of alignment with the inlet and outlet ducts, through the two wall partitions from the first chamber, wherein upstream duct ends overlap the inlet duct, through the second chamber and into the third chamber. Several longitudinal, opposing rows of small tubular, aperture-defining elements project from each of the internal ducts in the region of the second chamber. A third transverse wall partition, disposed in the first chamber, creates a small fourth chamber between the first and second chambers; large openings are formed in side-walls of the internal ducts within such fourth chamber.
