Awards:
Second Prize Rice School of Architecture Awarded second place in a weekend design competition at the Rice School of Architecture for “The Stacks,” a proposal to leverage Rice University’s technical expertise and the productive capacity of aquaponic farming to reconfigure the community garden typology. Project done in collaboration with Alex Tehranian, Duncan White, and Giorgio Angelini. Mrs. L. F. McCollum Fellowship Rice School of Architecture Awarded semi-annually to a graduate architecture student pursuing a research agenda within studio. The project suggested that proposing new architecture in Brasília (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) constitutes a hermeneutic act with respect to its founding competition entry and therefore opens up new possibilities for understanding the meaning of preservation as a political, historical, and architectural discourse. Morris R. Pittman Travel Fellowship Rice University Award received for a proposal to travel to Seoul, South Korea to explore the relationship between technology and public space in a highly networked society. The research documentation and final write-up investigated the opportunities this condition might provide architects seeking new interfaces with the public and new channels for politicized practice in small-scale design.
