Abstract:

A radiosurgery and radiotherapy system to provide diagnostic imaging and target localization via a patient 3-D mapping means such as a CT scanner or MRI, patient positioning via a four degree of freedom of motion table, and a stereotactic Cobalt 60 therapy unit incorporating multiple sources to therapeutically irradiate a target is provided. Methods of radiosurgery and radiotherapy utilizing the system are also provided. A combination of radiation source configuration, 360 degree rotational characteristics of the therapy unit, and table movement will allow any size and shape of target to be irradiated to therapeutic levels while decreasing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. A radiation beam catcher which captures greater than 80% and preferably greater than 90 percent of the radiation from the radiation sources is also provided.

Abstract:

A process irradiator includes a heavily shielded, generally cylindrical, housing with a heavily shielded top. A radiation source includes source elements in several tubes extending from the top into a shielded storage cask below the center of the housing floor. A circular track concentrically positioned relative to the track guides a motor-driven carousel carrying a number of turntables which carry material to be irradiated, the turntables being rotatable on their axes. A heavy shielded door provides access to the turntables which are successively rotated on the carousel to a position adjacent the door opening. A lifting structure on the top includes two or more lifting devices which permit selective lifting of the source elements from the storage cask into the housing. Interlock controls prevent the door from opening and the carousel from rotating unless all source elements are stored in the storage cask.

Abstract:

Systems and methods for measuring and damping forces within autoinjectors in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. In one embodiment of the invention, an injection system comprises a syringe disposed within a housing, the syringe having a first end and a second end; a needle disposed at the second end of the syringe; a plunger disposed at the first end of the syringe and configured to move toward the second end of the syringe; a stopper disposed between the plunger and the second end of the syringe; a first damper disposed between the plunger and the stopper, such that the first damper is capable of damping a first event occurring between the plunger and the stopper; and a second damper disposed at the second end of the syringe, such that the second damper is capable of damping a second event occurring at the second end of the syringe.
