Abstract:

An arc welding torch accessory providing automatic material feed to an existing TIG torch, which has user adjustable wire feed speed without discontinuing use of the device. The welding torch device is employed in gas delivery arc welding devices which use hyperbaric welding techniques to evacuate air or oxygen from the weld area while the weld is being processed. The disclosure describes a system for adopting an automatic wire feed system to an existing TIG welding torch head. The device allows automatic delivery of wire material, commonly fed by hand in arc welding, by presenting the wire to be fed automatically while allowing the arc welding torch operator to adjust the quantity of material feed while actually in the process of welding. The apparatus provides for user speed adjustable controls to be operated by a foot pedal device or similar means which would allow the operator of the welding torch to continue the operation during the adjustment process and eliminates the need for the operator to cease the welding operation while adjustment of the material feed delivery speed is undertaken.

Abstract:

An arc welding torch control system providing remotely selectable control over welding wire feed rate and welding current without discontinuing use of the welding device. A torch mounted three position switch provides for selection of variable wire feed rate with constant preselected current control, variable current control with a preselected constant wire feed rate, or simultaneous variation of both parameters over a given preselected range. Control of the selection and parameter range control is remotely presented to the welding operator by use of torch mounted controls or by remote controls co-located in the immediate location of with the welding torch so that the operator can manipulate the rate of the selected parameter by foot or otherwise without the need to discontinue the welding operation.

Abstract:

A manual welding safety disconnect to provide the welder the ability to stop current flow to a TIG (GTAW) torch or a stick (SMAW) welding lead where it attaches to the supply cable which would allow the operator to prevent further current flow by causing a misalignment of the enclosed electrical contacts. Misalignment of the electrical contacts by a rotation around the inert gas tube permits the operator to immediately shut off the welding current while still allowing the gas flow in the TIG version. This configuration also is more convenient for the welder since he would not have to leave his work area. This safety device would reduce the risk of electric shock, accidental arc strike, and arc flash. This device can isolate any one lead or torch to produce a safe zero energy mode even if operating from a multibank power supply.
