Abstract:

A circuit board contained in a circuit board holder forms a server blade that fits into a bay of a server blade enclosure. The circuit board permits standard electrical components to fit within the cross-sectional width of the server blade. The server blade in cross section may be generally triangular, L-shaped or another type of polygon that permits placement of tall components that otherwise would not fit in a generally rectangular server blade.

The specification may disclose a system and related method for control of a server system that may include determining the amount of power delivered in a system utilizing redundant power supplies based on a measurement of the voltage of load share signals between those power supplies, and then allowing additional servers installed in the server system to power-on only if the amount of power required for the combined servers does not exceed the maximum available power or exceed the power required for a certain type of redundant power supply operation.

Abstract:

A connecting apparatus comprises a riser card () and a slot (). The riser card comprises a PCI-X slot (), a PCI-E slot (), a first connector (), a second connector () and a third connector (). The first connector set a serial of PCI-X signal pads () on one side thereof. The second connector is adapted to provide power and ground signals. The third connector set a serial of PCI-E signal pads () on the same side thereof as the first connector. The slot is defined on a circuit board for the riser card inserted therein. The slot comprises a first portion () and a second portion () coupling to the second connector. The first portion comprises a first side with a series of PCI-X signal pins () coupling to the serial of PCI-X signal pads of the first connector, when the riser card is inserted into the slot in a first direction with the first connector inserted into the first portion. The first portion comprises a second side with a series of PCI-E signal pins () coupling to the serial of PCI-E signal pads of the third connector, when the riser card is inserted into the slot in a second direction which is reverse to the first direction with the third connector inserted into the second portion.
