Abstract:

A system for authenticating an entity includes a database configured to store a profile associated with an entity, the profile including at least an authentication status; a supplying device configured to supply transaction details including a unique virtual payment number (VPN) to a third party entity to be authenticated; a receiving means for receiving an authorization request that includes transaction details that include a VPN; and a processor configured to capture, from the authorization request, transaction details for a payment card transaction wherein the transaction details includes at least a payment card number, authenticate the entity requesting a transaction by comparing the captured transaction details including a payment card number to the supplied unique VPN, and update, in the database, the authentication status in the profile associated with the entity based on the authenticating of the entity based on said authentication.

Abstract:

A method for providing registrationless payment card security for a payment network that includes maintaining a list of anonymous mobile telephone numbers, which correspond to personal payment card account numbers (PAN). When a card-present authorization for a listed PAN is received, the payment network requests the geolocation of the cell phone of the card holder in real time from the mobile network operator. The mobile network operator determines the geolocation of the cell phone and transmits it to the payment network. The payment network compares the geolocation of the cell phone with the geolocation of the merchant to confirm that the card holder is present at the location of the transaction.

Abstract:

In one aspect, a method is provided herein of identifying transactions being processed over a payment card network which may be subjected to a conditional consumption tax. The method includes receiving, via the payment card network, a payment authorization message corresponding to a transaction between a user and a merchant. Further, the method includes determining, using a computer, from the payment authorization message, a user geographical code for the user. Similarly, the method includes determining, using a computer, from the payment authorization message, a merchant geographical code for the merchant. Using a computer, the method calls for comparing the geographical code of the user and the geographical code of the merchant with a demesne of a first tax authority. If the geographical code of the user and the geographical code of the merchant are within the demesne of the first tax authority, then, determining the transaction has no conditional consumption tax burden under the first tax authority. If the geographical code of the user and the geographical code of the merchant are not both within the demesne of the first tax authority, then, identifying the transaction as subjectable to conditional consumption tax by the first tax authority. Advantageously, with the method of the subject invention, transactions over a payment card network can be reviewed to determine if conditional consumption taxes, such as use taxes, apply while being normally processed.

A method and system of determining a vehicle mileage tax associated with a consumer includes retrieving data associated with a plurality of transactions associated with a payment account of a consumer, the data including a merchant identifier, a location, and a date and time associated with each of the plurality of transactions. A total mileage traveled by a vehicle associated with the consumer is estimated based on the location, and the date and time associated with the plurality of transactions. A vehicle mileage tax is calculated based on the total mileage estimated for the vehicle associated with the consumer. Additional geotemporal information is provided by mobile devices linked to the payment account and is used to adjust the vehicle mileage estimated from payment transaction geotemporal data.

Abstract:

A method for scoring a user's propensity for credit fraud includes forming a social graph from Call Detail Records (“CDR”), the users being nodes and weighted edges connecting node pairs representing a relationship between those users. Initial scores are assigned to users. A first user/credit applicant final score is calculated as a sum of all weighted initial scores of users having a degree of separation of n with the first user, along a path of connecting edges on the social graph, each weighted initial score being a product of the weight of the edges connecting the corresponding node pair, the user initial score, and the inverse square of the degree of separation with the first user. The summation of the degree weighted initial scores of users with degree of separation of n or less is the first user's credit-fraud score.

Abstract:

Records of geotemporal data for a plurality of users from a database associated with on-line and/or mobile cellular activities are used to generate a geotemporal fingerprint of a user. The geolocation history associated with the user's on-line and/or mobile cellular activities from one such database can be correlated with a user's geolocation data from a separate on-line database associated with a different activity. For example, the geolocation history or geotemporal fingerprints associated with on-line and/or mobile cellular activities from one particular database can be correlated with those associated with payment card usage. Such information can be used to authenticate a user, for example, as a security measure for payment card users and issuers, for registrationless credit security applications, and for gathering relevant data for advertising campaigns.
