Abstract:
Surgical cooling may be implemented by various systems, processes, and techniques. In certain implementations, a surgical cooling device includes a shaft, a cooling assembly, and a mechanical control system. The shaft includes a pair of axial cooling channels extending through its interior. The cooling assembly includes a pair of arms pivotally attached to the shaft and a foldable thermal exchanger coupled to the pair of arms and fluidly coupled to the pair of axial cooling channels. The mechanical control system is adapted to unfold the cooling assembly from a closed position to an open position to allow a coolant to flow through a first of the pair of axial cooling channels, through one or more thermal exchange channels, and out a second of the pair of cooling channels.

Abstract:
Systems, apparatuses, and methods for providing negative pressure to a tissue site are disclosed. Some embodiments are illustrative of an apparatus or system for delivering negative-pressure to a tissue site that can be used in conjunction with sensing properties of fluids extracted from a tissue site. For example, an apparatus may comprise a dressing interface or connector that includes a pH sensor, a humidity sensor, a temperature sensor and/or a pressure sensor embodied on a single pad within the connector and proximate the tissue site to provide data indicative of acidity, humidity, temperature and pressure. Such apparatus may further comprise an ambient port for providing the pressure sensor and the humidity sensor with access to the ambient environment providing readings relative to the atmospheric pressure and humidity.

Abstract:
A dressing includes a first felted foam layer, a superabsorbent material printed on the first felted foam layer, and a second felted foam layer coupled to the first felted foam layer. The superabsorbent material is confined between the first felted foam layer and the second felted foam layer.
Novel Absorbent Wound Dressing Construct That Allows Wound Fluid Assessment In Use
A wound dressing includes a hydrophilic foam layer, a plurality of wicking strips, and a drape layer. The hydrophilic foam layer is configured to engage a wound bed and has a first side and a second side, the second side configured to face the wound bed. The plurality of wicking strips also have a first side and a second side, the second side configured to face the first side of the hydrophilic foam layer. The drape layer also has a first side and a second side, the second side configured to face the first side of the plurality of wicking strips. One or more of the plurality of wicking strips also have a removable tab, wherein the tab extends beyond a periphery of the wound dressing.
Wound Based Sensor System With Wireless Activation
Systems, apparatuses, and methods for providing negative pressure and/or instillation fluids to a tissue site and sensing properties of fluids at a tissue site are disclosed. Systems, apparatuses, and methods for wirelessly activating and pairing a sensing device with a wireless communication device and/or therapy device to transfer sensor data from the tissue site is also disclosed.
Tissue Interface With Integral Fluid-Control Layer
Tissue dressing materials and associated methods of forming such dressing materials are disclosed. In one example embodiment, a dressing material may include a foam and a film formed on a first side of the foam. The film may be integrally-formed on the side of the foam. The film may include a plurality of apertures. A method of making the dressing material may include placing a pre-polymer mixture and water into a mold to create the dressing material comprising a foam and an integral film on at least one surface of the foam. The method may further include forming a plurality of openings in at least the integral film, with the openings being formed within the mold or subsequent to removal of the dressing material from the mold.

Abstract:
An evaporative bridge dressing that may be used with negative-pressure treatment of tissue. The evaporative bridge dressing may have one or more fluid transfer layers comprised of high-density wicking material enclosed between layers of film having high moisture-vapor transfer rates to manage liquid storage and pressure drop. The evaporative bridge may have an absorbent in some embodiments. An evaporation channel may be disposed adjacent to or combined with the evaporative bridge. A means for measuring pressure across the evaporative bridge may include a feedback path. A support means may reduce or prevent collapse of one or more of the evaporative bridge, the evaporation channel, the feedback path.

Abstract:
Systems, apparatuses, and methods for instilling fluid to a tissue site in a negative-pressure therapy environment are described, Illustrative embodiments may include a pneumatically-actuated instillation pump that can draw a solution from a solution source during a negative-pressure interval, and instill the solution to a dressing during a venting interval. In one example embodiment, a system for providing negative-pressure and instillation to a tissue site may comprise a negative-pressure device and an instillation device. The negative-pressure device may comprise a negative-pressure source and a controller electrically coupled to the negative-pressure source. The instillation device may comprise a dosing valve having a dosing chamber including a dosing outlet configured to be fluidly coupled to a fluid port and a dosing inlet configured to be fluidly coupled to a source of instillation solution. The dosing valve may also have a working chamber including a biasing element operably engaged to the dosing chamber and configured to be fluidly coupled to the negative-pressure source. In some embodiments of the system, the instillation device may further comprise a wireless transceiver configured to communicate with the controller, and at least one sensor coupled to the wireless transceiver to provide a signal indicative of an operating condition of the dosing valve, and wherein the wireless transceiver is configured to communicate the at least one signal to the controller.
