About:
Kate Frank Cohen is an associate broker with Arthur Lee of Red Rock, Inc. She has been enjoying the riches of Columbia County, New York, since 2000 when she and her husband purchased a weekend home in the Hamlet of Red Rock. Finding it harder and harder to return to their Chelsea loft on Monday mornings, in 2002 they moved to the area full time, purchasing and restoring a c.1764 eyebrow farm- house in Spencertown. Enjoying the challenge and adventure of helping people buy and sell properties and perceptive about matching people to the right homes, Kate has had great success closing deals since obtaining her New York State real estate license in 2004. She takes a lot pleasure in introducing her customers to the depth and breath of the market; assisting her clients in selling their homes or land in a professional and timely manner; and sharing with all her wealth of knowledge about the area, her extensive network of local resources and her creative ideas. Prior to moving upstate, in New York City Kate was manager of public relations at the 92nd Street Y (1992-8), and director of communications at Japan Society (1998-2000) and Volunteers of America (2001-2). Before entering the communications field, she managed specialty retail stores, and from 1982-5, was visual merchandising director for a chain owned by — BATUS Retail Group. From 1984-92 Kate was manager and publicist for her youngest son, actor Jedidiah Cohen. She was the advertising director for Rural Intelligence (2009-10), a comprehensive on-line resource about what's happening in the Upper Hudson Valley and Berkshires. Kate also works on numerous freelance public relations projects; clients include Navigos Group, Ltd., Vietnam Works, The A**hole My Head and Camp Unleashed. Kate holds a BFA in photography from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where she studied with renowned photographer Harry Callahan. Singling out her work in "Young Photographers: Students of Harry Callahan" (Hallmark Gallery, New York, NY), Jane Dreyfuss wrote in Modern Photography that it “balances form against space. Her photos play with the picture frame, filling it in a way that makes a statement not only about [the subject] but about graphic design as well… All extra details are eliminated as shape plays against shape.” Kate has an extensive portfolio of work. On-going projects include West of Home, which reflects her deep interest in other cultures, including Mexico, Peru, Japan and Southeast Asia, as well as Close to Home, studies of a not-so-distant land: her own Columbia County backyard. Active in the local arts community, since 2003 Kate has been a director of Spencertown Academy Arts Center, serving as board president from 2004-9. She is also a trustee of the Red Rock Historical Society and founder and head of RISD Rural, a tri-state regional alumni group. Past volunteer positions include board president of the 40 West 24th Street Corp. (1990-2001), co-chair of the RISD class of 1969's 35th reunion (2004) and alumni council visibility committee (2004-6), and member of the RISD board of directors institutional advancement committee (1999-2004). Kate's strong communications and social skills, energetic style and sincere enthusiasm about the exquisite rural area she lives and works in have helped her become one of Columbia County's top real estate agents. A licensed New York State associate broker, she is a member of National Association of Realtors®, New York State Association of Realtors®, Columbia-Greene Board of Realtors® and Columbia-Northern Dutchess MLS.
