Abstract:

A pacing control is used in a multiple-chamber cardiac pacing system, which, upon detecting an atrial arrhythmia, automatically switches to a special therapy mode and administers a selected anti-tachycardia pacing (ATP) therapy in the atrium, and which switches to a standard pacing mode following delivery of the ATP therapy. The pacing control adjusts the timing of pacing pulses to be delivered to the atrium and/or the ventricle to minimize any potential ventricular pauses that may result from the switch from the therapy mode to the standard pacing mode.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus are provided for detecting cardiac arrhythmias during overdrive pacing. A maximum paced rate and a reduced paced rate for a heart are determined, the maximum paced rate being higher than the reduced paced rate. The heart is paced at the maximum paced rate. After the heart is paced at the maximum paced rate for a predetermined amount of time, the heart is paced at the reduced paced rate.

Abstract:

An implantable medical device and associated method classify therapy outcomes and heart rhythms in association with therapy outcome. A therapy success time interval is started in response to delivering an arrhythmia therapy. If normal sinus rhythm is detected after the therapy success time interval expires, the delivered therapy is classified as unsuccessful and the detected arrhythmia is classified as a self-terminating rhythm.

Abstract:

A computing device includes a memory device, a communication module, an interface, a processor, a display controller, and an input device. The communication module wirelessly receives a stream of first electrogram waveforms (EGMs) from an implantable medical device (IMD). The interface receives a stream of second EGMs. The processor stores the first and second EGMs and retrieves the stored first and second EGMs. The display controller displays the first and second EGMs together when the first and second EGMs are received. The input device is configured to receive a selection command from a user. The processor retrieves a portion of at least one of the first and second stored EGMs in response to the selection command. The display controller displays the retrieved portion of the at least one of the first and second stored EGMs while the processor concurrently stores the streams of the first and second EGMs.

Abstract:

A programmer is disclosed for transmitting encoded signals to a pacing generator to effect the programming of a mode and/or parameter of the pacering generator's operation. The pacing generator applies stimulating pulses to the patient's heart in accordance with the programmed parameters and/or mode and includes a memory for storing the encoded signals and means therein for detecting the successful storage of the parameters in the memory to provide an indication thereof, whereby a generating circuit of the pacing generator generates a test or PIP pulse of given characteristics and within a defined interval after the pacing pulse. The programming apparatus of this invention includes means coupled to the patient's body for sensing his heart activity signals including the stimulating pulses and the PIP pulses, a keyboard for entering the parameters and/or mode of operation to be programmed within the pacing generator, a transmitter for encoding and transmitting the parameters and/or mode of operation to the pacing generator, and a measuring means for measuring the characteristics of the detected PIP pulse and the interval of time between the occurrence of the stimulating pulse and the PIP pulse, for determining whether the measured interval and characteristics are within a predetermined set of limits and if so, for providing a manifestation that the pacing generator has been successfully programmed.

Tested functions include the presence and interconnection of defibrillator electrodes, battery charge state and the operability of the high voltage circuit. Abstract:

A gain control system for verifying the programming of an implanted medical device is provided for an external programming unit which receives transmitted signals from the implanted unit and verifies if these signals represent valid "1" and "0" data bits. If the signals of an encoded message unit are valid signals then processing continues. If some of the signals are invalid due to noise interference, the gain of the receiver of the programming unit is decremented in steps as long as the error rate exceeds a predetermined number of errors per unit time.
