Description:

Kathleen Monroe Design is a multi-disciplinary studio specializing in high-end residential and commercial interior design / interior architecture, custom furniture and textile design, consultation in color, and graphic design. Our mission is to create spaces and designs that are visually stunning, comfortable, and mindful of the environment, while respecting the style and economic goals of our clients. We feel that a successful design is born from a sensitive understanding of site, architecture, and aesthetic. From the antique to the modern, our work incorporates classic elements from all eras. In establishing the balance of these elements with an eye to spatially conscious living, we hope to convey a clear and sustaining reflection of our clients' lifestyles, tastes and personalities. Each space and each client is unique, and so we seek to cultivate careful communication and collaboration with all of our project partners, to arrive at thoroughly envisioned environments through an individualized design process. Kathleen Monroe is the founder and principal of the firm, and she is personally involved in every project. With training and experience in fine art, graphic design, photography, and interior architecture, Kathleen brings a creative eye, a keen understanding of materiality and of concept, and a strong spatial awareness to her work. She is versed in different historical periods and geo-cultural perspectives, which permit broader and often surprising solutions to essential design questions. Kathleen earned her BFA in Sculpture from Washington University in St. Louis, with additional studies in Art History. She holds a second degree in Interior Architecture from California College of the Arts (CCA), graduating with the greatest honor of High Distinction. In the geomantic arts, she has trained for over a decade with several top teachers in the United States and in the UK. Her work has been widely published.
