Keith Clay, a distinguished professor of biology at Indiana University-Bloomington, has done his own studies of tick-associated microbes. In the 15 years he has worked in the field, he has noted a similar transformation.
Ten, 12 years ago, you couldnt find a lone-star tick in our area, said Indianas Keith Clay, an expert on the microbes found in ticks and other insects. Now its the dominant species.
Periodical cicadas prefer areas where there are open, vegetated areas with young trees scattered around -- in effect suburbia, says Keith Clay, a professor of biology at Indiana University-Bloomington who studies cicadas, especially Brood X.
