Abstract:

An event trigger data string is formulated and added to digital content for distribution to an audience via broadcast, satellite, cable or any other technology. The event trigger data string includes identification of an event source, identification of an operation to be performed, and a payload. A controller reads the data string and outputs a command to an appropriate event source for alteration of a digital content stream based upon the identified operation. The payload may, for example, identify an advertisement or notice to be spliced into or out of the digital content stream. Such event trigger data strings may be added to many different digital content streams, and a router or switching component may distribute the streams to systems that disseminate them to the audience. The technique enables interaction with different event sources, and allows command of multiple different operations by these event sources.

Abstract:

A six-wheel railway motor truck for swivelly supporting a locomotive body is connected to the same for the effective transmission thereto of draft and braking forces at a level at or near that of the rail whereby the vertical moment arm through which traction forces might act to tip the truck frame and thereby cause load transference from axle to axle is minimized, with corresponding minimization of such load transference. The truck comprises a rigid frame resiliently supported on the three axles, a body support bolster supported on the sides of the truck frame by upright springs and held against swivelling movements or longitudinal movements with respect to the truck frame while being free for limited vertical and transverse movements with respect to the truck frame. Transversely and longitudinally spaced sliding bearings on the bolster slidably engage opposing bearings on the locomotive underframe for holding the bolster against tipping longitudinally or transversely with respect to the underframe and cooperating vertical axis pivot-forming bearings on the underframe and bolster transmit longitudinal forces from the bolster to the underframe and permit swivel of the entire truck with respect to the underframe. For transmitting longitudinal forces from the truck frame to the bolster and hence to the supported longitudinal body substantially at rail level, the truck frame is connected to the bolster at each side by a pair of longitudinally upwardly and outwardly inclined links arranged so that their axial projections intersect at track level.

Abstract:

A railway vehicle, in particular a locomotive, has three or more trucks with the bolsters of each swivelly supported on the respective truck frames and having means for transmitting longitudinal traction and braking forces to the body underframe. The truck bolsters mount upright body-support spring devices which are yieldable in shear transversely of the locomotive to permit sufficient limited lateral movement of the body with respect to the trucks to prevent the full force of lateral blows and shocks received by the wheels from being communicated to the body and for preventing the momentum of the body from acting with its full lateral force on the truck wheels and rails. The upright springs of the end trucks support the underframe directly while the upright springs of the intermediate truck or trucks support a superbolster which is movable transversely of the locomotive underframe a substantial distance in addition to the lateral deflection of the upright springs to accommodate the additional lateral movement or excursion of the intermediate truck or trucks with respect to the underframe required during operation on curved track.

Abstract:

A railway motor truck has a pair of wheeled axles, the wheels having profiled treads to effect self-steering and the axles resiliently supporting a truck frame with sufficient yaw freedom to accommodate wheel-induced steering movements, and an interconnection between the axles, comprising a transverse shaft journaled in the truck frame intermediate the axles, normally substantially vertical levers affixed to the end portions of the shaft, and a pair of links respectively connecting the opposite ends of one axle to the upper and lower ends of the respective levers, and a second pair of links respectively connecting the opposite ends of the other axle to the opposite ends of the respective levers. Axle-to-axle load transference is substantially prevented by traction connections between the truck and a supported vehicle body effecting traction transmission therebetween substantially at rail level, and pitching of the truck frame from motor torque reaction is minimized and vertical and yawing movements of the axles are facilitated by the provision of a quill drive and rigidly mounting the traction motors on the truck frame.

Abstract:

A railway vehicle truck in which the framing consists of sideframes resiliently supported at their ends on the axle bearings and a main frame supported on the sideframes by flat elastomeric pad devices inclined longitudinally of the truck and located at a substantially higher level than the levels of the neutral axes of the sideframe center portions and of the effective lateral reaction points of the resilient supports of the sideframes on the axles, the position and inclination of the pad devices being such that the horizontal component of the resultant force developed by each pad device on the respective sideframe lies along the neutral axis of the sideframe center portion whereby to place the center portion of the sideframe in tension rather than bending and thereby permit use of sideframes of extremely light construction, and separating lateral thrust means between the sideframes and main frame from the vertical springing function of the inclined pad devices to permit optimum placement of the lateral thrust means, i. e. , in the region of the effective level of resilient support of the sideframes on the axles, thereby eliminating substantial lateral overturning moments on the sideframes which would otherwise occur if all lateral thrust between the main frame and sideframes were applied at the level of the inclined pads.

Abstract:

A railway power truck has a rigid frame resiliently supported on its axles and intermediate its axles has a bolster supported on the sides of the rigid frame by longitudinally oppositely inclined elastomeric pads whose normals converge near rail level. At the sides of the truck, the bolster mounts springs which directly support the vehicle body and are yieldable horizontally as well as vertically to accommodate swivel and lateral movements of the body with respect to the truck. For transmitting longitudinal tractive and braking forces between the truck and body and preventing tipping of the bolster about a transverse axis with respect to the body while accommodating lateral and swivel movements of the body with respect to the bolster, while providing clearance at the level of the truck frame for structure such as radial axle linkage, the body rigidly mounts at the center of the truck a depending cylindrical post and the post swivelly mounts a generally diagonally extending lever, to the opposite ends of which are pivotally secured vertically spaced pairs of parallel longitudinally extending links, the links at opposite ends of the lever extending in opposite longitudinal directions and being pivotally connected at their ends remote from the lever to the bolster, thus maintaining the bolster parallel to the body irrespective of longitudinal tipping movements of the truck frame, the latter being accommodated by the inclined bolster mounting pads whereby to cause transmission of tractive forces to the body effectively at rail level and thereby minimize axle-to-axle load transference.

Abstract:

A radial axle railway truck has a pair of wheel and axle assemblies with profiled wheel treads of greater than conventional conicity to steer the assemblies by means of the differential effect of the inner and outer wheel diameters on curved track, the axle bearings are located inboard of the wheels, and the truck frame side members are correspondingly located inboard of the wheels and there supported on the axle bearings such that longitudinally acting resilient restraint means between the axle bearings and the truck frame resist substantial movements of the axles longitudinally of the truck frame while offering only limited resistance as a couple to steering movements of the axles with respect to the truck frame because of the relatively short transverse moment arm between the longitudinally acting resilient means. The inboard location of the axle bearings permits the use of straight links extending diagonally of the truck and pivotally connected at their ends to the diagonally opposite axle bearings to oppose hunting movements of the wheel and axle assemblies during movement along tangent track and to couple wheel-induced turning movements of the wheel and axle assemblies in opposite directions on curved track so as to avoid interference with their self-steering ability. An equalized tread brake mechanism is provided to compensate automatically for the differences in longitudinal wheel spacing at the opposite sides of the truck on curved track.

Abstract:

A radial axle railway truck has a pair of depressed center side frames supported at their ends from the axles by horizontal elastomeric pad devices carried on the sides of outboard journal bearing adapters to permit steering movements of the axles, the horizontal pad devices nearest the ends of the side frames being elongated transversely of the truck and the horizontal pad devices remote from the ends of the sideframes being elongated longitudinally of the truck. A transverse truck frame is supported at each side above the depressed center portion of the respective side frames by a pair of generally V-shaped elastomeric pad devices supported on the inclined portions of the side frames connecting the high end portions and the depressed center portions thereof. Both journal bearings on each of the respective axles are connected by a yoke member extending toward the center of the truck and both yoke members are in turn connected by diagonal links to provide equal and opposite turning movements of the axles responsive to yaw and steering movements of the axles. Each axle mounts at least one brake disc and the mechanism therefor is supported from the respective axles and includes shoes underlying the respective axles, each mechanism being connected to the truck frame to transmit braking torque thereinto in a longitudinal direction only and thus oppose inertial longitudinal movement of the truck frame with respect to the axles during retardation of the axles, without interfering with steering movements of the respective axles.
