Abstract:

A blend comprising a high molecular weight, medium density polyethylene (HMW, MDPE) and a linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) is disclosed. The blend comprises from about 20 wt % to about 80 wt % of HMW MDPE. The HMW MDPE has a density from about 0. 92 to about 0. 944 g/cc, a melt index MI from about 0. 01 to about 0. 5 dg/min, and a melt flow ratio MFR from about 50 to about 300. The blend also comprises about 20 wt % to about 80 wt % of LLDPE. The LLDPE has a density within the range of about 0. 90 to about 0. 925 g/cc and an MI within the range of about 0. 50 to about 50 dg/min. The blend provides films with significantly improved toughness and tear strength compared to MDPE or HDPE, and high modulus compared to LLDPE.

Abstract:

A process for making MD (machine direction) oriented polyethylene film is disclosed. The process comprises blending a high-molecular weight, medium-density polyethylene (HMW MDPE) and a linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), converting the blend into a thick film, and orienting the thick film into a thinner film in the machine direction. The resulting film has high modulus, high gloss, low haze, and relatively high MD tear and dart impact.

Abstract:

A latch for securing an actuator arm of a hard disk drive. The latch has a catch portion that can engage a latch portion of the actuator arm. The latch also has a pusher portion and a crash stop portion that engage the actuator arm during movement into a latched position and prevent the latch from rebounding away from the arm. The pusher and crash stop portions eliminate the need for a separate crash stop in the disk drive. Eliminating the separate crash stop component reduces the complexity and cost for mass producing the disk drive.

Abstract:

Ethylene copolymers valuable for films, coatings, sheets, and molded articles are disclosed. Some of the copolymers have a long-chain-branching index from 0. 25 to 0. 60 and a gpcBR index from 0. 1 to 0. 7. Others have a primary DSC melting point that is less than its secondary DSC melting point. Also disclosed is LLDPE in which the weight percentage of the low-temperature elution fraction exceeds that of the high-temperature fraction, and wherein the Mof the low-temperature fraction exceeds that of the high-temperature fraction. The ethylene copolymers process easily, even at low melt indices, and films from the copolymers have high stiffness, good impact resistance, and high heat-seal strength over a wide temperature range.

Abstract:

An external bumper that is attached to the housing of a hard disk drive. The disk drive may include a disk that is attached to a spin motor. The spin motor may be mounted to a base plate. An actuator arm assembly may also be mounted to the base plate and coupled to the disk. The disk is enclosed by a cover that is attached to the base plate. Elastomeric bumpers are attached to the corners of the cover and the base plate. The bumpers absorb shock loads that are applied to the hard disk drive. By way of example, if the disk drive is dropped on an external surface the bumpers will make contact with the surface and absorb the impact load applied to the drive.

Abstract:

A balanced spin motor assembly of a hard disk drive. The spin motor includes a spindle that is mounted to a base plate of the disk drive by a plurality of mounting screws that are attached to mounting holes of the spindle and base plate. At least one recording disk is attached to a hub assembly that rotates relative to the spindle. The hub assembly contains magnets that are coupled to a coil located within the motor. Energizing the coil with a current creates a torque that rotates the hub and spins the disks. The hub assembly has a plurality of equally spaced threaded apertures located at a top portion and a bottom portion of the hub. The spin motor can be balanced by attaching weight screws to the threaded apertures of the hub. Weight screws can be attached to the bottom portion of the hub through the mounting holes of the base plate and the spindle. Accessing the hub through the mounting holes allows the spin motor to be dynamically balanced while attached to the base plate of the drive.
