Abstract:

An apparatus and method for removing the distortion in marine seismic data resulting from the motion of the ship. The ship trails one or more seismic sources and receivers and moves forward at a known velocity. The seismic sources emit seismic waves that travel through the water and reflect off interfaces between rock formations below the ocean floor. The motion of the sources and receivers introduces distortion in the recorded seismic data that can be modeled using Doppler theory. The data preferably is corrected for source motion independently from the correction for receiver motion. The seismic data is first corrected for receiver motion and then for source motion. The technique for correcting for source motion includes correlating the receiver-corrected data with a reference sweep signal, performing an F-K transform, performing an inverse F-K transform on a selected subset of the F-K transformed data, and computing appropriate correction filters for the data resulting from the inverse F-K transform. This process is repeated for all subsets of F-K transformed data and the resulting filtered data are summed together.

Abstract:

An apparatus allowing the ticket printer of a computing scale to be used for printing normal weight, value and price per unit weight labels or alternately for printing labels indicating a manually entered selling price. The selling price label can be used in sale by unit or sale by count merchandise pricing. Dual use of the normal scale printer for preparing either type of label reduces the equipment needed at a pricing station in addition to lowering the investment required for machine printed merchandise pricing. Automatic changeover from the weighed value to the sale by unit mode of operation in response to scale weight indication is also disclosed.

Abstract:

A ratchet drive mechanism is substantially completely enclosed within the housing of a hand tool. The ratchet drive mechanism includes a drive link having forwardly and rearwardly disposed ends within the tool housing. The drive link is adapted to engage a movement-imparting element of the hand tool and to movably engage at least one pawl. The at least one pawl has two ends and extends continuously therebetween, and an angle substantially centrally along the length thereof to form an elbow at which the at least one pawl is movably connected to one end of the drive link. The ratchet drive mechanism also has a drive gear with a drive shaft extending axially therefrom. The drive gear is mounted within a forward end of the housing of the hand tool with the drive shaft disposed transversely relative to a longitudinal axis of the hand tool and extending beyond the confines of the tool housing for interengagement of an item to be turned.

Abstract:

A seismic system is provided with a method of reducing distortions caused by motion of a source and receiver in marine seismic measurements. In one embodiment, the seismic system comprises a seismic source, a seismic receiver, a source/receiver interface unit, a processing unit, a data storage unit, a display device, and a user input device. The processing unit is configured to receive seismic measurements from the seismic receiver and to create a seismic velocity model from the received data. The processing unit uses the velocity model to calculate a dilation function that is indicative of distortion caused by motion of the seismic source. Preferably, the processing unit corrects the seismic measurements for this distortion by computing a transform of the seismic measurements, partitioning the transformed measurements into "dip slices", inverse transforming the individual dip slices, correcting the dip slice measurements according to the dilation function, and adding the corrected dip slice measurements together to obtain the corrected seismic measurements. The disclosed system and method can advantageously provide for more accurate correction for source motion, which in turn yields seismic data having substantially reduced "smear" when ensemble averaging is performed to reduce seismic noise.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a portable storage enclosure which can be used as a seat. The device includes a storage enclosure defining a storage cavity, and an access opening thereto. A door is mounted on the storage enclosure. The door is movable from a position at which it covers the access opening to a position at which it permits access to the storage cavity. A belt is attached to the storage enclosure. The belt is adjustable from a first position at which the belt can be secured about a wearer's waist to a second position at which the belt can be secured around a generally vertical support, such as a tree or utility pole. The apparatus of the present invention is designed so that the wearer can remove the storage enclosure from the wearer's waist, attach the storage enclosure to the generally vertical support by the belt, and use the storage enclosure as a seat.

Abstract:

A microwave oven has an up-opening oven door which is hinged to be movable in an arcuate path. The door moves between a closed lower position covering an aperture to the cooking cavity in the front surface of the oven cabinet and an open upper position above the aperture. The axis of this arcuate motion is adjacent the upper edge of the oven door and internal to the oven cabinet. Connecting arms extend from pivots within the cabinet through openings in the front surface of the oven cabinet, and connect to the oven door. To counterbalance spring biased linkage is fastened to the connecting arms and acts to bias the door to its open upper position when the door is opened beyond a neutral point.

Abstract:

Aspects and examples are disclosed for improving multi-factor authentication techniques to control access to secured electronic resources. In one example, a decisioning computer system evaluates, based on a passive-dimension decision process, an access request, received from a user device, for a secured electronic resource. The passive-dimension decision process can evaluate dimensions associated with the access request, such as identity or device characteristics, to determine whether the dimensions of the access request are outside of norms for the user. Based on the passive-dimension decision model, the decisioning computing device may communicate to the user device an access decision, the access decision describing one or more of an access authorization, a denial of access, or a supplemental authentication challenge.
