A method and apparatus for removing oil from the produced water that is associated with the production of hydrocarbons. The method consists of providing a plurality of serially connected individual compartments with each compartment connected to the next compartment by a flow path that induces the oil droplets to coalesce. The method may also include the use of parallel plate coalescers and gas flotation devices to aid in treating.

Abstract:

An apparatus and a method are disclosed for separating a first fluid from a second fluid wherein the first fluid is lighter than the second fluid and the first fluid is immiscible with the second fluid. A first portion of the first fluid is separated from a mixture containing the first and second fluids in a gravity separator. The remaining mixture flows to a hydrocyclone where a second portion of the first fluid is separated from the remaining mixture. The underflow from the hydrocyclone which includes most of the second fluid and the remaining portion of the first fluid flows to a second gravity separator without substantial pressure reduction to avoid shearing of the droplets of the first fluid. In the second gravity separator a third portion of the first fluid is removed.

Abstract:

A computer system has a housing and a central processing unit located inside the housing. The computer system also has a peripheral unit mounted in and removable from the housing and a communication port connector exposed on the outside of the housing for connection of and communication with external devices. The computer system has a dedicated communication link in the housing for communication with the peripheral unit. The computer system also has a device for connecting the peripheral unit to the port connector when the peripheral unit is removed from the housing and circuitry for coupling the dedicated communications link to the port connector when the peripheral unit is connected to the communication port connector. The computer system has a device for holding a portable disk drive constructed for insertion into an internal drive bay of a computer unit having a shell for covering and protecting the disk drive. The device has a cable assembly including a parallel port connector for connecting to the computer unit and a non-parallel port connector for connecting to a connector of the disk drive.
