Abstract:

A process for bonding a glass fiber reinforced plastic to a ferro-cement ucture to improve impact strength of the ferro-cement structure comprising the steps curing the ferro-cement mortar; acid etching the mortar on the side of the ferro-cement mortar to which the glass fiber reinforced plastic is to be bonded, rinsing the mortar, drying the mortar, applying a coat of adhesive to the mortar and attaching the glass fiber reinforced plastic to the bonded mortar surface. The adhesive may be partially cured if desired.

Abstract:

Tar sand and Gilsonite are preferably crushed together so that the Gilsonite overcomes the stickiness of the tar sand and the tar sand alleviates Gilsonite dust, the relative proportions and the character of Gilsonite being such as to produce an additive product for an asphalt, usually refinery asphalt, and a resulting modified asphaltic cement for paving purposes to simulate Trinidad Lake Asphalt. One embodiment of the additive composition of the invention results in an asphaltic cement that outperforms that produced by use of Trinidad Lake Asphalt as the additive, while a second embodiment of the additive composition of the invention contains additional tar-sand-extracted bitumen and the resulting asphaltic cement more closely matches the performance of that containing Trinidad Lake Asphalt as the additive. The invention includes a system for extracting bitumen from tar sand and in one form provides for adding Gilsonite to the extracted liquid bitumen so it will effectively solidify when cooled.

Abstract:

The present invention is a novel and unique orthopedic apparatus for holding, maneuvering and maintaining a body part of a patient during orthopedic surgery. The orthopedic apparatus provides for assisting the primary surgeon during orthopedic surgery by holding, maneuvering and maintaining a patient's leg, thereby eliminating any assistant surgeon in the surgery operation. The orthopedic apparatus is capable of independently accomplishing transverse sliding, up-and-down tilting, lateral swinging, longitudinal extension/retraction, and axial rotation so that the surgeon can properly positioned a patient's leg for the orthopedic operation. The orthopedic apparatus has self-locking gear mechanisms to hold the various sections of the orthopedic apparatus in position to thereby hold the patient's leg in the proper position throughout the surgical operation. The orthopedic apparatus can be mechanically, electrically or hydraulically driven to adjust the orthopedic apparatus, so that the surgeon can position the patient's leg with great accuracy during surgery.
