US Classification:

Abstract:
A system and method for the selection and retrieval of various types of video data from distributed delivery sites calls for the deployment of âSmart Mirrorâ sites throughout a network, each of which maintains a copy of certain data managed by the system. Each âSmart Mirrorâ site maintains copies of the data in several alternative file formats. Every user is assigned to a specific delivery site based on an analysis of network performance with respect to each of the available delivery sites. Generalized network performance data is collected and stored to facilitate the selection of additional delivery sites and to ensure the preservation of improved performance in comparison to traditional networks. The appropriate file format is automatically selected based on the capabilities of a user terminal making a request for data.
System And Method For Resource Management On A Data Network
A broadcast manager automatically commits resources and sets up network interconnections to produce a broadcast session on a data network. The broadcast manager automatically monitors usable network resources, tracks current data streams in the data network and tracks network resources that are used,by the current data streams to determine how resources are to be allocated. A system constructed according to the, invention may be used to provide multimedia distribution service that enables publishers to register multimedia presentations with the service and enables viewers to view these presentations.

Abstract:
A method for updating software components on a user terminal connected to a network provides for the automatic identification, retrieval, and installation of a selection of software components based on information contained in a script file and furnished by a user. The script file maintains information on current version numbers for the software components, and the method checks that information against stored configuration information to determine whether any components need to be updated. If so, the method simulates a manual transaction between the user terminal and a server storing the desired software component by following instructions set forth in the script file, which is updated as necessary, and sending appropriate user information to the server. The software component acquired thereby is then installed.
Method And System For Programmed Control Of Computer Generated Graphics Layout

US Classification:

Abstract:
A method and system providing high-level control of the layout of computer-generated graphs which adjusts detail design parameters specifying layout attributes of a graph. The adjustments are done automatically in response to values of design control parameters selected by a user to effect choices made by the user regarding the layout design of a graph. For a graph being designed, the selected design control parameter values control the selection, from tabularized groups of graph detail design parameters, of specific detail design parameter values. The selected graph detail design parameter values are provided to a graph production process to enable it to control an output device used in producing a graph which is laid out according to the user's choices.
