Abstract:

A HVAC diagnostic system and method is disclosed which permits bypassing the normal operation of a thermostat by HVAC service personnel, typically permitting the HVAC service personnel control over thermostat functionality while servicing the condenser coils and/or compressor located external to customer building. The present invention is useful in situations where HVAC service calls must be scheduled at customer premises such as homes, apartments, etc., during normal hours where the occupants are not typically available to permit access to the thermostat within the building structure. By permitting override of the customer thermostat at the compressor/condenser unit, the system permits servicing of this unit without customer assistance. As such, HVAC service can be completed on a more regular schedule, saving substantial energy and providing improved customer environmental comfort.

Abstract:

In a horn-reflector antenna system for producing a spherical aperture phase front, a corrugated conical horn illuminates a section of a hyperbolic reflector to produce a spherical aperture phase front which produces a far-field beam with low sidelobes and high beam efficiency. The system is insensitive to frequency and polarization changes, and is also insensitive to orientation about the axis of the conical horn for beam scanning.

Abstract:

A microwave harmonic absorption filter is disclosed which has an extended single mode pass-band ranging over one or more octaves as well as enhanced attenuation in the stop-band. This filter has a primary, rectangular waveguide having one or more ridges on the inner surfaces of its elongated wall members. Secondary waveguides are provided on the outer surfaces of these wall members and these secondary waveguides serve to diminish propagation of microwave energy in the stop-band. Apertures extend through the wall members of the primary, ridged, rectangular waveguide so that microwave energy within the range of frequencies of the stop-band can be transmitted from the primary waveguide into the secondary waveguides.

A superheater tube shield of refractory material comprises a pair of elongated half shields of identical interchangeable interlocking size and shape, each half shield having a semi-circular sidewall portion extending between and to diametrically opposite tongue and groove side wall portions which are assembled together about the tubes by axially inserting elongaged tongues into the elongated grooves. Refractory cement may be applied to attach the half sheilds to the tubes.

A thermal coupler assembly mounted to the coldfinger of a cryogenic cooler which provides improved thermal transfer between the coldfinger and the detector assembly mounted on the dewar endwell. The thermal coupler design comprises a stud and spring-loaded cap mounted on the coldfinger assembly. Thermal transfer is made primarily through the air space between the cap and coldwell walls along the radial surfaces. The cap is spring loaded to provide thermal contact between the cap and endwell end surfaces.
