Abstract:

A defibrillator battery includes at least one battery cell, a housing surrounding the at least one battery cell, and a memory connected to the at least one battery cell. The memory can be positioned inside of the housing that surrounds the at least one battery cell. The defibrillator battery can be used with a defibrillator including a battery status indicator which communicates with the defibrillator battery to indicate the status of the defibrillator battery. In a method of determining defibrillator battery status using the defibrillator battery and associated battery status indicator enables an operator to always determine the remaining charge of the battery and to determine when to replace the battery. The defibrillator battery, and associated battery status indicator, insures constant readiness of an automated external defibrillator for defibrillating a patient by preventing defibrillator failure due to an unknown reduced battery charge.

Abstract:

A defibrillator enclosure system generally includes an automated external defibrillator (AED), an openable cabinet, a detector, and an alarm circuit. The openable cabinet is used to enclose the AED while the detector monitors the presence and absence of the AED within the cabinet. Specifically, upon detecting that the AED is no longer within the cabinet, the detector activates an alarm circuit whereby an alarm indicating the absence of the AED is issued.

An external defibillator including an operator interface and a high voltage circuit responsive to a controller for producing monophasic waveform defibrillation pulses and/or biphasic waveform defibrillation pulses. The controller can implement a biphasic waveform test protocol by causing the high voltage circuit to sequentially generate one or more biphasic waveform defibrillation pulses before generating monophasic waveform defibrillation pulses in response to sequential actuations of the operator interface during a patient rescue.

An energy delivery system for use with an automatic external defibrillator (AED), the AED having a case containing a plurality of AED components, a battery electrically coupled to a control system, the control system communicatively coupled to a charge system, the charge system for generating a stored quantity of energy responsive to a communication from the control system, the control system selectively commanding a discharge of the stored energy to an electrical connector, the energy delivery system includes three electrodes, each electrode for making electrical contact with a skin surface of a patient, each electrode being in electrical contact with the electrical connector for communicating the stored energy to the patient. A method of defibrillating the heart of a patient using an AED, the AED having electrical energy discharge circuitry for generating a defibrillating energy discharge to affect the heart of the patient, the heart being in a state of fibrillation, includes the steps of placing three electrodes on the person of a patient to define a desired electrical path and discharging electrical energy across the electrical path.

Abstract:

The present invention includes an exhaust fan for exhausting combustion gases from a gas fired water heater, a gas pressure diaphragm switch for operating the exhaust fan in response to fuel flowing to the burner of the water heater, and a safety device for preventing fuel flow to the burner upon detecting undesirable changes in combustion gases. The apparatus further includes a time delay to continue operation of the exhaust fan and exhaust residual combustion gases for a short time after fuel flow to the burner has ceased. In one form the time delay is a time delay relay switch and in another form it is a flow restricting orifice that restricts the flow of fuel from the gas pressure diaphragm switch, thereby maintaining a closed circuit to the exhaust fan.

Abstract:

A device and method are provided for bio-electric monitoring apparatus to cancel bio-electric noise on the body of a patient. The device comprises a plurality of monitoring electrodes for reception of bio-electric signals from the body, each monitoring electrode having a conductive lead and a surrounding shield. The device further has a driving electrode for transmission of a correction voltage to the body. The driving electrode has a conductive lead and a surrounding shield. The device has a signal averager with an input and an output. The monitoring electrode leads are connected to the input of the signal averager. An amplifier is connected to the output of the signal averager which has its output connected to the driving electrode lead to provide the correction voltage. The shield around the driving electrode lead is conductively connected to the output of the amplifier. The method comprises the steps of obtaining bio-electric signals from a plurality of locations on the body and transmitting the signals via shielded leads.

Abstract:

An automated external defibrillator which automatically performs self-tests on a daily and weekly basis. Tested functions include the presence and interconnection of defibrillator electrodes, battery charge state and the operability of the high voltage circuit. Visual and audible indicators are actuated to alert an operator if faults are identified. A record of each self-test is stored in memory, and can be subsequently retrieved through a communications port.
