Abstract:
An electromagnetic wavelength filter that allows the transmission of electromagnetic energy within a narrow range of wavelengths while reflecting incident electromagnetic energy at other wavelengths. The filter includes at least one cavity region; and at least two reflectors surrounding the at least one cavity region, at least one of the reflectors being an omni-directional reflector. The omni-directional reflector includes a structure with a surface and an index of refraction variation perpendicular to the surface, and the omni-directional reflector is specifically configured to exhibit high omni-directional reflection for a predetermined range of frequencies of incident electromagnetic energy for any angle of incidence and any polarization.
Room Temperature Luminescent Erbium Oxide Thin Films For Photonics
A system for producing Erbium Oxide thin films with increased photoluminescence. The system includes a depositing stage for forming Erbium Oxide molecules by reacting Erbium sputtered atoms with Oin a gas phase and creating the Erbium Oxide thin film by depositing the Erbium Oxide molecules on a substrate coated with Silicon Oxide. The system further includes an annealing stage for annealing the Erbium Oxide thin films by utilizing a low temperature treatment for a specified amount of time and temperature followed by a high temperature treatment for another specified amount of time and temperature, wherein the crystallinity of the thin films has improved.

A system and method for controlling an engine control an EGR cooler bypass valve to divert at least a portion of EGR flow around an EGR cooler when operating under cooler fouling/plugging conditions, such as during idle, off-idle, exhaust system warm up and DPF regeneration or other post injection operation with EGR gas temperature below a corresponding threshold or with EGR low-temperature coolant temperature below a corresponding threshold. In one approach a method for operating an engine including a DPF is provided. The method includes adjusting a post fuel injection amount based on a rate of change of engine torque during DPF regeneration. As one example, the adjusting includes reducing the amount when the rate of change is positive, and increasing the amount when the rate of change is negative. Furthermore, the method may also include delivering exhaust gas to a turbocharger turbine, to an oxidation catalyst, and then a DPF, the adjusting of the post fuel injection further based on thermal inertia of the turbocharger.

A system and method that repeat video images in a deinterlacing system. The method comprises detecting a signal requesting an input video image be repeated and determining the desired number of repetitions. The input video image may then be processed to generate an output video image and the output video image may be repeated the desired number of repetitions. The input video images following the repeated image may be held until the repeating is completed, and may then be processed and displayed. Repeating the video image may be utilized to achieve different playback modes such as, for example, slow motion, pause, and video rate conversion.
Method For Reducing Urea Deposits In An Aftertreatment System
Various systems and methods are described for controlling a diesel aftertreatment system coupled to an exhaust system of an engine which includes a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst and a diesel particulate filter (PF). In one example, a threshold amount of urea injected to the SCR catalyst is adjusted based on an amount of soot generated by the engine and the total amount of urea injected to the SCR catalyst is limited by the threshold. For example, when the amount of soot generated by the engine is below a first threshold amount, the threshold amount of urea injection is reduced. When the amount of soot generated by the engine is above a second threshold amount, which is greater than the first threshold amount, the threshold amount of urea injection is increased.

for a tiny, power-constrained robot, we are forced to think about new modes of communication. This is a major step toward flying these robots in outdoor environments where we dont have a well-tuned, state-of-the-art motion tracking system, says Kevin Chen, who is the D. Reid Weedon, Jr. Assistante very energetically costly, but in a sense, we get that electroluminescence for free because we just use the electric field at the frequency we need for flying. We dont need new actuation, new wires, or anything. It only takes about 3 percent more energy to shine out light, Kevin Chen says.We are very proud of how good the tracking result is, compared to the state-of-the-art. We were using cheap hardware, compared to the tens of thousands of dollars these large motion-tracking systems cost, and the tracking results were very close, Kevin Chen says.in real-time. The team is working to incorporate control signals so the robots could turn their light on and off during flight and communicate more like real fireflies. They are also studying how electroluminescence could even improve some properties of these soft artificial muscles, Kevin Chen says.
