Abstract:

Disclosed are methods and coatings for protecting the surface of a non-metallic composite part, comprising applying a protective layer to an exposed surface of the non-metallic composite part, the protective layer comprising: (a) a multilayer having at least a co-cured layer applied to the surface of the non-metallic part and laser-sensitive layer applied to a surface of the co-cured layer, wherein the laser-sensitive layer is selected from a reflective layer, an optical sensor layer or a layer having both reflective and optical sensor properties; or (b) a co-cured coating which comprises a laser-sensitive material incorporated therein to form a laser-sensitive co-cured layer applied to a surface of the non-metallic composite part, wherein the laser-sensitive material is selected from a reflective material, an optical sensor material or a combination thereof, such that the non-metallic composite part will be protected from damage during subsequent laser ablation to remove an outer coating.

Abstract:

An ultrasonic inspection system, method, and software. In one embodiment, the ultrasonic inspection system includes an ultrasonic probe that directs ultrasound waves into a structure from a front wall, and receives reflected waves to generate a response signal. The system further includes a processor that rectifies the response signal to generate a rectified signal, integrates a portion of the rectified signal within a detection time window to determine an energy sum, and generates output based on the energy sum. The detection time window is restricted to a front wall reflection and at least a portion of a near-surface dead zone following the front wall reflection.

Abstract:

Systems and methods for a container for decreasing the thawing time for a liquid, gel or other fluid material is described herein. The systems can include a container with a body. The body can include a cavity with a dispensing nozzle and a plunger disposed within the cavity. The body can further include one or more channels separate from the cavity. The channel(s) increases the rate of heat transfer associated with the container and, thus, increases the cooling or heating rate of the material within the container.

The present disclosure is directed to a method for applying a multi-colored coating to a composite structure comprising applying a first co-curable film layer comprising a first color marking to a composite tool, applying a second co-curable film layer comprising a second color marking over the composite tool and at least partially over the first co-curable film layer to create a lay-up of a multi-colored marking, applying a composite structure over the lay-up of the multi-colored marking, and curing the lay-up of the multi-colored marking and the composite structure in a single curing step to create a cured multi-colored coating on the composite structure. A multi-colored coating for marking a composite structure and an aircraft part having a multi-colored marking are also provided.

Systems and methods for a flexible container for transport and storage of a working material are described herein. The material can be a viscous or liquid material when dispensed. The flexible container can be configured to move between a first shape and a second shape. The first shape can allow for efficient transport of the flexible container while the second shape can allow for the flexible container to couple to a dispenser. In certain examples, the flexible container can be cooled for transport and heated for dispensing.
