Abstract:

An electronic component assembly includes an electromagnetic interference (EMI)-producing component capable of generating EMI and an EMI-sensitive component. The electronic component assembly further includes a radiation shunt disposed proximate to the EMI-sensitive component capable of attracting at least a portion of the EMI and, by attracting the at least a portion of the EMI, shielding the EMI-sensitive component from the at least a portion of the EMI. By providing a radiation shunt to shield the EMI-sensitive component, a need is reduced for a mechanical shield that surrounds the EMI-sensitive component.

Abstract:

An X-ray detector using a semiconductor detector, most preferably a Silicon Drift Detector, utilizes a field effect transistor or other voltage-controlled resistance to generate an output voltage proportional to its input charge (which is generated by the X-ray photons incident on the semiconductor detector). To keep the charge (and thus the output voltage) to an acceptable range—one wherein the relationship between output voltage and input charge is substantially proportional—a feedback circuit is provided between the output and input terminals, wherein the charge on the input terminal is depleted when the output voltage begins leaving the desired range. Preferably, this is done by a comparator which monitors the output voltage, and provides a reset signal to the input terminal when it begins moving out of range. Alternatively or additionally, the reset signal may be a pulse supplied to the input terminal from a pulse generator activated by the comparator.

A communication device employs a method and apparatus for amplifying a radio frequency (RF) signal that eliminates the need for a signal splitter. An RF input signal (202) is coupled to a first RF amplifier stage (206) only. A signal coupler (222) couples an output of the first amplifier stage (206) to an input of a second amplifier stage (208). The input signal (242) for the second RF amplifier stage is an attenuated version of the output signal (240) from the first RF amplifier stage. Abstract:

An amplifier module includes a module substrate with a mounting surface, a signal conducting layer, a ground layer, and a ground terminal pad at the mounting surface. A thermal dissipation structure extends through the module substrate. A ground contact of a power transistor die is coupled to a surface of the thermal dissipation structure. Encapsulant material covers the mounting surface of the module substrate and the power transistor die, and a surface of the encapsulant material defines a contact surface of the amplifier module. A ground terminal is embedded within the encapsulant material. The ground terminal has a proximal end coupled to the ground terminal pad, and a distal end exposed at the contact surface. The ground terminal is electrically coupled to the ground contact of the power transistor die through the ground terminal pad, the ground layer of the module substrate, and the thermal dissipation structure.
