Bears Chicago released veteran defensive tackle Tommie Harris on Monday, cutting loose a three-time Pro Bowl pick who had struggled in recent years with injuries. The Bears also released linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer and offensive tackle Kevin Shaffer.
Off the record, the veteran linebacker said months ago that he expected the club to release him after the season. That's what happened when he was included in a news release along with defensive tackle Tommie Harris and offensive tackle Kevin Shaffer.
Also released were veteran linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer(notes), a starter for six seasons, including during the teams 2006 Super Bowl run. Offensive tackle Kevin Shaffer(notes) was also let go. Both players were entering the final year of their contracts.
