Abstract:
A release coating that exhibits superior release properties includes about 70% Goldschmidt RC 711 silicone, about 30% Goldschmidt RC 726 silicone and about 3% of total silicone weight photo initiator. The silicone mixture provides a smooth release and better avoids the deleterious effects of aging such as yellowing and flaking. In addition, the silicone mixture is a soft silicone such that it will not come off in a printer. The invention also includes a method of making a release coating and a method of applying a release coating to a substrate.
An improved run flat tire and system for use with a two-piece or multi-piece wheel and tire to provide for continued operation of vehicles after tire deflation. Certain aspects of the invention include a plurality of arcuate sections releasably aligned and secured to each other for positioning around a wheel, wherein extended lip portions of each arcuate section extend laterally from the inner base portion of each arcuate section to limit lateral movement of the run flat device relative to the wheel.

The present invention provides a run flat tire and system adapted for alignment around a wheel and inside a tire. The run flat tire and system comprises one or more arcuate portions configured and arranged so as to be releasably aligned and connected to form a run flat device suitable for installation around a tire rim drop center. The invention further comprises one or more insert or encapsulated portions (corresponding to one or more arcuate portions) made of a relatively strong or stiff material, and one or more corresponding outer portions of a relatively soft or lower durometer material. In one aspect, outer portion(s) are molded around or directly on corresponding encapsulated portion(s).

Abstract:
A silicone release composition having a non-gloss, i. e. , matte finished, surface and a linerless label incorporating the silicone release composition. The release composition includes a crosslinked silicone-based polymer having microparticles of a polymeric wax at least partially embedded therein. The polymeric wax may be polytetrafluoroethylene, polypropylene or other polyolefin, or a hydrocarbon-based wax. The microparticles of polymeric wax cause incidental light to scatter upon reflection, giving the release composition surface matte appearance. This makes the release composition particularly useful for linerless labels on which bar coded information will be printed. Also, a method for producing linerless label stock. The method includes mixing an uncured silicone material with microparticles of a polymeric wax. The mixture is coated onto a substrate and exposed to UV radiation to cure or crosslink the silicone around the microparticles of wax.

Abstract:
A business form is particularly useful to provide labels applied to appliances, as well as appliance registration information on a paper substrate associated with the labels. A common substrate mounts a repositional adhesive label and a permanent (piggyback) adhesive label while at the same time providing appliance registration information. The substrate and the labels may be variable imaged at the same time, as with a common appliance ID number. The removable adhesive label preferably has indicia indicating appliance energy costs, while the permanent adhesive label (of paper, plastic film or metal foil) takes the place of a typically metal appliance ID tag. A release material is preferably spot coated on the top surface of the substrate, and the repositional adhesive label is applied over the release material spot coat.

Abstract:
Linerless label stock is produced from a single substrate utilizing a coating machine by moving the substrate through the coating machine and applying a tie coating to the substrate first face, a release coating to the substrate second face, and a pressure sensitive adhesive to the tie coating. The release coating comprises a mixture of (a) about 55 to about 95 parts by weight of a first acrylated polysiloxane having the formula I: ##STR1## wherein R is a C. sub. 4 -C. sub. 2 alkyl group, m is about 40 and n ranges from about 8 to about 12; b) about 5 to about 45 parts by weight of a second acrylated polysiloxane having the formula II: ##STR2## wherein R is a C. sub. 4 -C. sub. 12 alkyl group, m is about 180 and n ranges from about 8 to about 12; and c) about 2 to about 6 parts by weight of a photoinitiator.

Abstract:
An apparatus and method provide for the alternate manufacture of permanent adhesive or repositional linerless labels utilizing the same equipment. Indicia is applied such as by using an intelligent imaging system by at least one print station. With repositional labels, a tie coat is applied and dried, whereas with permanent labels a barrier coating is applied. Coating stations apply a repositional adhesive and release coat in the construction of repositional adhesive labels. The coating station is followed by a dryer and chill rolls. In the construction of permanent adhesive labels a coating station for applying a release coat and a release coat curing station, as well as permanent adhesive application station, are also provided. Changeover time from the manufacture of one type of label to the other is short.
