Abstract:

The invention features methods and kits for treating or inhibiting the development of Parkinson's Disease by administering 7-chloro-4-aminoquinoline compounds, e. g. , amodiaquine or glafenine. Stem cells are also useful in the methods of the invention and may be administered separately from or together with 7-chloro-4-aminoquinoline compounds. The invention further features methods of identifying additional chemical compounds that are useful in the treatment or inhibition of the development of Parkinson's Disease.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for implementing wireless internet connections for a plurality of portable computing devices located within a given area or hotspot. The invention employs a combination of wired and wireless links to manage propagation effects of the transmitted signal and to reduce interference with signals transmitted in adjacent spaces. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the existing wiring infrastructure at the hotspot, which may be coaxial cable for CATV, is used as the wired segment. A broadband signal, containing internet data obtained from a central computer, is transmitted from a plurality of access points. The signals transmitted from the access points are injected onto the existing wiring, with the broadband signal isolated from the data or power signals carried by the wiring infrastructure. At the outlet ends of the coaxial cable, the broadband signals are separated from the existing data or power signals and coupled to high efficiency antennas which radiate a signal throughout the corresponding living or activity space. In the case of a hotel room, for example, the signal is broadcast for reception anywhere within the hotel room. In accordance with one aspect of the method of the invention, the broadband signals are broadcast from the various access points using several carrier frequencies or channels, and distribution of the channels is arranged to avoid adjacent room same channel interference.

A method for manufacturing a blood filter assembly is provided that includes the steps of providing a first housing sheet and a second housing sheet. The method includes locating and sealing at least one port onto each of the first and second housing sheets. The method includes locating the filtration medium between the first housing sheet and the second housing sheet. Abstract:

Apparatus and methods for efficient expression of breast milk is provided. The device comprises a horn having a funnel for receiving a breast and a tube extending downwards from the funnel and removably connected to a first end of a main body. The main body has a stem extending downwards from a second end. The horn portion of the device can vary in size depending on the user need to accommodate varying sizes. A flexible cylindrical diaphragm and a valve is provided and are configured to engage and create a sealing between the lower portion of the main body and a container for receiving the breast milk. The use of the cylindrical diaphragm creates minor stress points along the surface of the diaphragm, thereby making it difficult to tear or damage during repeated operation and cleaning. The device further comprises a cap having a port in communication with a pressure source and configured to engage with a container for receiving breast milk, the container further configured to removably connect with the lower second end of the main body. During the milking operation, a negative pressure from the pressure source is communicated through the port to the device in order to create a suction on the funnel for extracting the milk from the breast. In response to the negative pressure, the diaphragm moves from a first state to a second distended state and the valve circumferentially engages and seals around the stem of the main body to provide an airtight seal during the milking operation. Once the negative pressure is released the diaphragm returns back to the first state allowing the milk to freely flow from the horn, through the main body and into the container.
