Abstract:

A medical device includes a clevis, a first blade, a second blade, and a tension member. The first and second blades are rotatably coupled to the clevis. The first blade includes a first coupling portion. The tension member is coupled to the first blade and applies a torque to the first blade to rotate the first blade about the clevis between a first, second, and third orientation. The second blade includes a second coupling portion. The second coupling portion is coupled to the first coupling portion such that A) the second blade remains in a fixed position relative to the clevis when the first blade is between the first and second orientation, and B) rotation of the first retractor blade between the second and third orientation transfers at least a portion of the torque to the second retractor blade causing rotation of the second blade about the clevis.

Abstract:

An instrument access device of a teleoperated surgical system includes an envelope, a clamp, and a plurality of ports. The envelope includes a distal opening and a cavity. The clamp is in the distal opening of the envelope. The plurality of ports are coupled to the envelope. The plurality of ports are proximal to the clamp and the distal opening of the envelope. Each of the plurality of ports includes a seal, which is sized and shaped to seal an outer surface of a cannula and to fix a position of the cannula relative to the port and the envelope.

Abstract:

A support apparatus for a medical device includes a first sleeve, a second sleeve, and a flexible contact member. The first sleeve is configured to be coupled to a first tool member of an end effector assembly that includes the first tool member, a second tool member, and a clevis, in which the first and second tool members are each rotatably coupled to the clevis such that second tool member can be moved relative to the first tool member between a first and a second orientation. The second sleeve is configured to be coupled to the second tool member. The flexible contact member is coupled to the first sleeve and the second sleeve, and is configured be moved between a collapsed configuration when the second tool member is in the first orientation and an expanded configuration when the second tool member is in the second orientation.

The following describes various applications and uses for a controllably rigidizable flexible device or sheath. Such rigidizing mechanisms can allow for a transition between a rigid state and a flexible state of a sheath. Rigidization can be applied along an entire length of a flexible sheath or along select portions of the sheath, and the rigidization can be of varying stiffness. Rigidization can be user controlled or automatically controlled using computer processes.

Abstract:

Representative methods, apparatus and systems are disclosed for determining one or more physiological parameters, such as for ambulatory blood pressure and other vital sign monitoring. A representative system comprises first and second wearable apparatuses to be worn on the user's left and right sides, and any of several types of central vital signs monitors. Another representative system is a handheld, singular apparatus to be held in both hands by the user. Another representative system comprises first and second wearable apparatuses without any additional central vital signs monitor. The various embodiments measure a differential pulse arrival time of left and right arterial pressure waves using corresponding determined features, such as a foot or systolic peak, and using the measured differential pulse arrival time and calibration data, determine at least one physiological parameter such as blood pressure, heart rate, stroke rate, and cardiac output.
