Abstract:
An electrical submersible pumping (ESP) system for use in a wellbore that can be assembled in the wellbore. Upper and lower pump tandems are fitted with connectors that align the tandems when coupled in the wellbore. The connectors on the lower tandems have bores with enlarged openings on upward facing surfaces. Downward pointing pins are on lower facing surfaces of the connectors on the upper tandems. The cross sectional area of each bore decreases with distance away from the openings, so that as the pins insert into the bores the pins move along a helical path that in turn rotates the upper tandem into a designated azimuth and into alignment with the lower tandem. Properly aligning the upper and lower tandems couples respective drive and driven shafts in the tandems as the upper tandem lands on the lower tandem.

Abstract:
An impeller vane includes at least one groove on a high pressure or working surface of the impeller vane to increase pump efficiency and reduce pump power requirements. The impeller vane includes a groove or a plurality of grooves formed on the high pressure surface of the vane. The grooves extend from a leading end of the vane to a trailing end of the vane. The grooves define ridges on either side of each groove that extend the length of the groove.

Abstract:
A well pump includes a plunger reciprocally carried within a barrel between up stroke and down stroke positions. A tubular linear actuator housing located below the barrel has a rotatable rotor. An array of rotor magnets is mounted to the rotor, directing rotor magnetic fields in an outward direction. A cage is fixed against rotation relative to the housing and carried within the housing for axial movement relative to the rotor and the housing. The cage has a cylindrical inner sidewall surrounding the outer sidewall of the rotor. An array of cage magnets is mounted to the inner sidewall of the cage. The cage magnets direct cage magnetic fields in an inward direction relative to the axis. The cage and rotor magnetic fields interact such rotation of the rotor causes axial movement of the cage. A motor rotates the rotor.

Abstract:
A well fluid submersible pump assembly includes a pump operatively coupled to a motor and a seal section located between the motor and the pump. The seal section has a single piece tubular housing with adapters secured to opposite ends of the housing. A shaft extends axially through the housing for driving the pump. An auxiliary seal carrier located in the housing has a central bore through which the shaft extends and has an outer diameter portion that seals to the bore of the housing. Opposed check valves in the seal carrier allow lubricant to flow from one side of the auxiliary carrier to an opposite side of the seal carrier in response to a selected pressure differential. A mechanical face seal mounts to the auxiliary seal carrier and seals around the shaft.
Pressure Relief Mechanism For Linear Actuator Well Pump
A reciprocating well pump assembly has a barrel and a piston reciprocally carried within the barrel between up stroke and down stroke positions. A travelling valve moves with the piston and has a closed position during the up stroke an open position during the down stroke. A relief port extends from a bore of the piston below the travelling valve into the barrel. A valve sleeve mounted around the body of the travelling valve is axially movable between a closed position, closing the tubular body relief port, and an open position, communicating well fluid in the barrel with the well fluid in the bore of the piston. When nearing the top of the stroke, the valve sleeve abuts a stop in the barrel. Continued upward movement of the piston causes the valve sleeve to open the relief port.

Abstract:
An apparatus, system and method for reducing gas intake in horizontal submersible pump assemblies are described. A horizontal electric submersible pump (ESP) system for pumping gaseous fluid comprises a multi-stage centrifugal pump, an electric motor operatively coupled to the centrifugal pump, and an intake section upstream of the pump comprising a tapered core further comprising a sloped outer surface extending between a downstream side and an upstream side, a first intake port for the intake of well fluid in an ESP assembly, the first intake port located on a top portion of the tapered core and proximate to the downstream side, a gravity-actuated closing member moveably attached on the sloped outer surface, wherein the gravity-actuated closing member closes the first intake port, and a second intake port located on a bottom portion of the tapered core, the second intake port open to the well fluid.
