Abstract:
Telephone line service type identification is provided to a telephone technician in the field by the placement of one or more tuned circuit(s) across the telephone line. In one embodiment, an inexpensive tuned circuit such as a ceramic resonator forms a telecom service resonator ID device which is placed across a telephone line, either at the central office or at the customer premises. Injection of a test current at a predetermined frequency, and a suitable amplitude of the same indicates to the technician aspects of telecom service to that particular telephone line (e. g. , the existence of POTS, ISDN, and/or xDSL) and or use of the telephone line by a home network such as HPNA. In another embodiment, a telecom service transponder ID device is formed to provide line service identification to an interrogating line technician. The telecom service transponder ID device is activated when the test signal including an appropriate frequency is present to cause excitation in the telecom service transponder ID device. The resonator and transponder devices preferably have very high impedances at all frequencies except at the desired resonant frequency, and thus avoids violation of telephone service standards.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a synchronizing data protocol comprising one or more serial input-output (SIO) control word(s) and data passed across a high voltage interface, to allow the elimination of a frame synchronization signal (and corresponding AC coupling capacitors). The present invention has particular applicability to, e. g. , time division multiplexed (TDM) data, serial data communication devices, or synchronous serial communication interfaces in general, and to the communication between a controller and a codec in an audio codec device in accordance with the AC 97 Specification, i. e. , the AC Link. The synchronizing data protocol is implemented over a transmit data signal line to provide occasional synchronization (i. e. , not frame-by-frame synchronization) between the two communicating devices. The master device includes a preamble insertion module to insert a predetermined preamble code word into the transmitted data stream.
Address Generation Utilizing An Adder, A Non-Sequential Counter And A Latch
An integrated circuit, e. g. an AC 97 conforming audio codec, includes a digital filter and gain module including multiple channels of gain control and multiple channels of digital filtering. A gain control module includes an overflow check of data samples requiring differing lengths of clamping. Each channel of the digital filter includes a finite impulse response (FIR) filter, and an infinite impulse response (IIR) filter. The digital filtering is implemented largely in hardware independent of the number of channels required and/or independent of the required order of the filtering. Thus, filter channels can be added or additional filtering implemented merely by increasing the clock speed without changing the digital filter design. The FIR filter is capable of being reset each frame to prevent a DC buildup at internal nodes. The IIR filter performs a plurality of 2 order biquadratic equations in an overall average of as few as four clock cycles per 2 order biquad.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for controlling the DC line current on a telephone line and reducing the amount of error introduced to the system. The error is reduced by compensating for a DC error term introduced by an analog to digital converter having a DC offset. The DC offset is controlled digitally, allowing software to be used to limit the DC error in accordance with predefined parameters. Predefined parameters can be set to accommodate varying country specifications instead of using switches to control resistors and capacitors. In addition, changes in a countrys requirements can be accomplished through software, instead of changing components or redesigning a circuit board. The use of software results in increased flexibility by allowing an infinite number of settings via software or software updates, allowing changes to be made quickly and easily throughout the world, and allowing error terms to be accommodated digitally.

Abstract:
A circuit provides a modulation signal to an input terminal of a line modulator which places a line current modulated in accordance with the modulation signal on a telephone line. An amplifier of the circuit amplifies an analog input signal to provide the modulation signal at an output terminal. A first resistor and a first capacitor are coupled in series between a first input terminal of the amplifier and the line, and a second resistor and a second capacitor are coupled in series between a second input terminal of the amplifier and the line. First and second precharge amplifiers are used to precharge the first and second capacitors, respectively, to reduce DC setup time.

Abstract:
An AC impedance matching architecture which provides programmable AC impedance matching in a given range using a digital filter to filter a signal fed back from the impedance matched line to generate an AC impedance emulation control signal. The AC impedance emulation control signal is combined with a transmit signal (if desired) and drives a voltage controlled current source, which is in parallel with a reference impedance. A voltage is developed across the reference impedance to drive, e. g. , the telephone line. The reference impedance is chosen based on a desired maximum AC impedance. The gain of the digital filter, a first order sigma delta filter in the disclosed embodiment, is chosen based on the desired value of the AC impedance. The transfer function of the digital filter is derived based on a desired AC impedance.
