Abstract:

A protective cover () for an instrument dome () extending from a body () of a vehicle, such as a missile. The cover () includes multiple segments ( and ) having trailing ends () connectable to the body () at joints () that allow for rotational movement. The cover () further includes a releasable holder () that includes a retention device () that holds leading ends () of the segments ( and ) together, and a release mechanism () for causing the retention device () to release the leading ends (). The joints () hold the trailing ends () of the segments ( and ) to the body () through a predetermined range of motion beyond which the segments ( and ) will be released to separate from the body () when the segments ( and ) rotate beyond the predetermined range.
