Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of operating a computer network with fault-tolerant nodes, comprising determining the state of a first and second link between fault-tolerant nodes and other network nodes. Data sent by the fault-tolerant node to other nodes may then be sent over a link that is selected based on the state of the first and second links. In some embodiments of the invention this takes place in an intermediate node in a network, which receives data from an originating node and forwards it to a destination node via a link selected based on the state of the first and second links. In some further embodiments of the invention, fault-tolerant nodes contain network status tables that indicate the ability of the fault tolerant node to receive data from and transmit data to other nodes via each of the links connected to the fault-tolerant nodes.

Abstract:
A system for, and method of, emulating, on a non-native computer, a native environment for a visual display object file for a real time process control system and a real time process control system employing the emulator. The visual display object file contains a drawing command, an address pointer for communicating data with the real time process control system and a rule for interpreting data received from a touch-sensitive screen. The system includes: (1) a display routine that causes the non-native computer to control a non-native visual display coupled thereto to display an image thereon as a function of the drawing command, (2) an address mapping routine that communicates the data between the visual display object file and the real time process control system as a function of the address pointer and (3) an input translation routine that translates data received into the non-native computer from a non-native pointing device coupled thereto into data suitable for interpretation by the rule, the system thereby allowing the non-native computer to display the image, communicate the data with the real time process control system and interpret the data received from the non-native pointing device.

Abstract:
An interface provides a path to transfer data from a proprietary network to an open system. The proprietary network includes at least one module central processing unit (CPU) and a module memory associated therewith operatively connected to the proprietary network. A shared memory and shared memory logic are interposed between the proprietary network and the open system, thereby forming the data path. The method comprises the steps of accepting requests for data from the open system by a parasitic task function within the module CPU. The data requested of the proprietary network is obtained and placed in a predetermined location of the module memory in a form understandable to the open systems. A pointer value is placed in the shared memory, the pointer value containing the value of the predetermined location of the module memory, the shared memory being mapped in the addressable memory space of the shared memory logic using virtual memory techniques. The data is obtained directly from the module memory utilizing the pointer value corresponding to the data requested, thereby allowing open systems to access the proprietary system while maintaining the integrity of the proprietary network.

US Classification:

Abstract:
The method guarantees the integrity of a process control systems display in an open system windows environment. The process control system includes an interface apparatus to at least one foreign system, and receives display information such that the display information from the foreign systems and the display information from a network of the process control system are displayed on a display unit of the process control system in a windows format in response to control information from the interface apparatus. The interface apparatus transmits the display information of the foreign systems to a display generator unit via a first input channel of the display generator unit. Control information is also transmitted to the display generator unit via the first input channel to command a display format to the display generator unit of the display unit. The display format includes a plurality of windows, one of the windows being a control view. The control view (display of the process control system) display information is transmitted to the display generator unit via a second input channel of the display generator unit.

Abstract:
An apparatus includes first hardware configured to communicate, via a first interface, over a supervisory control network with one or more components of an industrial process control and automation system. The apparatus also includes second hardware configured to communicate, via a second interface, with a computing platform that virtualizes at least one other component of the industrial process control and automation system. The apparatus further includes a third interface configured to transport information between the first and second hardware.

Abstract:
A method of displaying fault tolerant Ethernet (FTE) status in a process control system having FTE devices in a FTE community including a plurality of Enhanced Universal Control Networks (EUCNs) each having an Enhanced Network Interface Module (ENIM). FTE cable status data is collected from the FTE devices during system operation. Responsive to receiving user's request, generating diagnostic display view data filtered by a FTE Device index including FTE status for any combination of the FTE devices or second FTE diagnostic display view data filtered by EUCN node number including FTE status for FTE devices in a user selected EUCN. The first FTE diagnostic display view data or second FTE diagnostic display view data are transmitted to a device of the user, and is then displayed on a user's display.
