Abstract:

A fluid ejection assembly includes a carrier including a substrate and an electrical circuit with the substrate having a first side and a second side opposite the first side and the electrical circuit being disposed on the second side of the substrate, a fluid ejection device mounted on the first side of the substrate, and at least one electrical connector electrically coupled to the electrical circuit and the fluid ejection device, wherein the electrical circuit includes a printed circuit board such that the printed circuit board and the substrate both have at least one fluid passage extending therethrough with the at least one fluid passage communicating with the first side of the substrate and the fluid ejection device.

Abstract:

A method of fabricating a fluid ejector is disclosed. In the present embodiment, a plurality of thin film layers are deposited on a first surface of a printhead substrate, the plurality of thin film layers form a thin film membrane. At least one of the layers forms a plurality of fluid ejection elements, and at least another of the layers forms a plurality of conductive leads to the fluid ejection elements. A plurality of fluid feed holes are formed in the thin film membrane. At least one opening in a second surface of the substrate is formed, the opening providing a fluid path from a second surface of the substrate through the substrate. The plurality of fluid feed holes are located over the at least one opening in the substrate, and all portions of the fluid ejection elements and conductive leads overlie the substrate.

Abstract:

Methods for fabricating a printhead are described. In one embodiment, a method includes forming on a substrate using a single fabrication technique multiple resistors, some of the resistors to be used as heater resistors configured to eject fluid and some of the resistors to be used as storage resistors that store data, annealing the heater resistors, and intentionally not annealing at least one of the storage resistors, wherein the annealed storage resistors have a first state representing a first digital value and the unannealed storage resistors have a second state representing a second digital value, such that the values associated with the storage resistors can be read by an appropriate detection circuit.

Abstract:

A printer is disclosed herein. The printer has a printhead having a plurality of ink nozzles for ejecting ink, a servicing mechanism for capturing the ejected ink from the ink nozzles, to service the printhead, and a control device coupled to the printhead and the servicing mechanism for regulating the servicing. As part of the regulation, the control device continues feeding a substrate towards the printhead during an idle period. The idle period of the printhead can be a duration when printing on the substrate is suspended. Further, the control device regulates ejection of ink from the ink nozzles towards the substrate during the idle period and operates the servicing mechanism during the idle period. In an example, the servicing mechanism captures the ink before the ink reaches the substrate.
