Abstract:

Equalizer training is validated by techniques to detect false training. The validation techniques involve checking the unique time domain energy shaping of a plurality of taps of a trained equalizer of a modem for good training. The energy measure for each equalizer tap of the plurality of taps is approximated by summing the magnitude of a real component and a magnitude of an imaginary component of an equalizer coefficient corresponding to the equalizer tap. A tap with a highest approximate energy (i. e. , the main tap) is then determined. Next, the main tap energy is compared to a main tap threshold and a predetermined guarding threshold. The plurality of taps are arranged in a time index ordered sequence. In determining the main tap threshold, a first energy sum of a beginning set of taps in the sequence is compared with a second energy sum of a last set of taps in the sequence. The lesser tap energy sum between the first energy sum and the second energy sum is the main tap threshold.

A system for providing vision contains an aberrometer, a wavefront sensor, and a transfer optical system. The aberrometer is configured to measure a received wavefront. The aberrometer includes a wavefront sensor and a transfer optical system for transferring an input wavefront so as to the provide the received wavefront at or near the wavefront sensor. The system also includes a processor in communication with the aberrometer, a readable memory, and instructions located within the memory. The readable memory contains one or more system error parameters and instructions available to the processor. The instructions are for determining at least one aberration of the received wavefront and calculating the input wavefront based on the received wavefront and the one or more system error parameters.

Abstract:

Dental caries in man may be prevented or treated by oral ingestion of human or humanized murine monoclonal IgG and IgM antibodies that bind to surface antigens of cariogenic organisms, such as . The genetically engineered monoclonal antibodies engage the effector apparatus of the human immune system when they bind to cariogenic organisms, resulting in their destruction. In a preferred embodiment, monoclonal antibodies to cariogenic organisms are produced by edible plants, including fruits and vegetables, transformed by DNA sequences that code on expression for the desired antibodies. The antibodies are applied by eating the plants.

Abstract:

Microbial infection may be treated by administration of a fusion protein comprising one or more recognition sequences and at least one antimicrobial peptide. In preferred embodiments, a linker peptide connects the recognition sequence and one or more antimicrobial peptides. The recognition sequence may be an immunoglobulin molecule, or fragment thereof, that specifically binds to a target antigen present on a pathogen. The recognition sequence may also be a non-immunological polypeptide, providing that the polypeptide binds specifically to a particular ligand. In presently preferred embodiments the recognition sequence is monoclonal antibody that binds specifically to and the antimicrobial peptides are derivatives of histatin.
