Abstract:

Method and apparatus for face alignment by building a hierarchical classifier network. The hierarchical classifier network connects the tasks of face detection and face alignment into a smooth coarse-to-fine procedure. Texture classifiers are trained to recognize feature texture at different scales for different resolution layers. A multi-layer structure is employed to organize the texture classifiers, which begins with one classifier at the first layer and gradually refines the localization of feature points using additional texture classifiers in subsequent layers.

A method for detecting solid components in ground glass nodules (GGNs) in medical images, includes: performing an intensity-based segmentation on a segmented GGN to identify a high intensity region; and performing a shape analysis to determine whether the high intensity region is a solid component or a vessel, wherein the shape analysis comprises: computing a compactness of the high intensity region; and determining whether the high intensity region is a solid component or a vessel by using an area, a maximum distance on a distance transform map and the compactness of the region; or determining whether the high intensity region is a solid component or a vessel by scaling and normalizing the region and computing a compactness for the scaled and normalized region.

Abstract:

Resource allocations in stream data processing systems are performed to allocate the resources in a cost-effective manner by formulating the resource allocation problem as a linear program. For a problem with a single output, a backward algorithm or method is used that produces an optimal solution in linear time. For a problem with multiple outputs and the network has a tree structure, a backward shrink algorithm or method is used to provide an optimal solution in linear time. These algorithms are fully distributed, they require only local exchange of parameters between neighboring nodes, and are adaptive to the dynamic changes in network conditions and flow rate fluctuations.

Methods and systems for automatic detection of landmarks in digital images and annotation of those images are disclosed. A method for detecting and annotating landmarks in digital images includes the steps of automatically assigning a tag descriptive of a landmark to one or more images in a plurality of text-associated digital images to generate a set of landmark-tagged images, learning an appearance model for the landmark from the set of landmark-tagged images, and detecting the landmark in a new digital image using the appearance model. The method can also include a step of annotating the new image with the tag descriptive of the landmark.
