Abstract:

In accordance with the invention, a light emitting diode package assembly is provided to emulate the pattern of light produced by an incandescent filament bulb. The package assembly is composed of a substrate for LEDs comprising a heat-sinking base having a pair of opposing major surfaces. Each major surface has an overlying of thermally conducting ceramic and an outer surface layer of light reflective material. Disposed on each surface layer is a plurality of LEDs. Advantageously, the LEDs are arranged on the surface in a configuration of low mutual obstruction. Advantageously, reflecting elements transverse to each surface layer are positioned and shaped to reflect a substantial portion of the light emitted from the LEDs that would otherwise enter neighboring LEDs. In a preferred embodiment, the LEDs are arranged in the general form of a closed curve, and a transverse reflector is disposed in the interior of the curve. Alternatively, the LEDs can be arranged in a linear array.

Abstract:

A soft magnetic steel alloy contains in weight percent, about 1.0-5.0% manganese, about 7-17% cobalt, and the balance is essentially iron. The disclosed alloy provides a highly acceptable level of magnetic saturation induction combined with good electrical resistivity with a substantially reduced amount cobalt relative to the known Co—Fe soft magnetic steel alloys.

Abstract:

An iron-nickel-cobalt alloy is described which has the following weight percent composition: The alloy also contains 0.01-0.50% of an element selected from the group consisting of bismuth, lead, selenium, and combinations thereof. The balance of the alloy is essentially iron and the usual impurities. The alloy according to this invention provides a unique combination of machinability, low thermal expansion, phase stability, and hot workability.

The alloy provides a yield strength of up to about 580 MPa (84 ksi) while maintaining ductility and magnetic induction comparable to the known 27Co--Fe soft magnetic alloy. Magnetic and mechanical properties are developed through an annealing heat treatment which is performed after the alloy has been mechanically worked and machined to final shape.
