  • Abstract:
    Systems and methods are described for coordinating volt-var control between sub-transmission and distribution systems. Distributed energy resources of a distribution system are aggregated into virtual power plants from which reactive power can optimally be dispatched to the sub-transmission system. A sub-transmission controller executes a volt-var AC optimal power flow optimisation function to minimize voltage fluctuations that might otherwise occur when coordinating with a distribution system having distributed energy resources. The distribution system can use a sensitivity matrix for regulating voltage at distribution feeders while fulfilling a transmission or sub-transmission system's demand requests.

  • Abstract:
    A method of estimating a state of an electric power distribution system that includes a plurality of nodes and at least one electrical monitoring sensor includes measuring electric current flow (I), real power flow (P), and reactive power flow (Q). The method also includes determining estimated real power load values (Ps) and reactive power load values (Qs) and determining a plurality of estimated load current values (Is) based on the Ps and the Qs. The method further includes measuring a value of voltage (V) for at least one node and determining a voltage estimate (V) for the node. The method also includes comparing the Vwith the V, thereby determining a difference value between the Vand the V. The method further includes determining that the difference value exceeds a threshold and adjusting the Ps and the Qs to match the Vand the V.
