Abstract:

The disclosure describes an absorption spectroscopy method for sensing hydrogen gas in a sample atmosphere and an associated hydrogen sensor. A light beam, having a wavelength corresponding to a vibrational transition of hydrogen molecules from a ground vibration state to any excited rotational vibration state via a quadrupole interaction, is introduced into an optical cavity adapted to receive a sample atmosphere to be tested for the presence of hydrogen gas. The light is introduced into the cavity in an off-axis alignment to systematically eliminate cavity resonances, while preserving the absorption signal amplifying properties of such cavities. Hydrogen absorption is measured is terms of cavity output, as in the ICOS technique.

Abstract:

An RFID system includes a pair of guide tracks located on opposite boundaries of at least one zone. A channel is movably attached to the guide tracks and is configured to move along the guide tracks through the at least one zone. A mobile RFID reader is movably attached to the channel and the mobile RFID reader is paused at a plurality of read points to scan for RFID tags located. The read points are determined by an arrangement of a plurality of hexagonal areas which are grouped together to create a combined area, where the combined area is aligned with the predefined area to define locations of the plurality of hexagonal areas, and where substantially central locations of each hexagonal area represent the plurality of read points.

A computer-implemented method for obtaining a font for a document includes determining each glyph of a font that is specified in contents of an electronic document, the determination identifying a subset of multiple glyphs included in the font, the subset determined on a first device that does not have the font stored thereon. The method includes generating on the first device a request to a second device based on the determination, the request identifying the subset to the second device. The method includes receiving, at the first device, information sent from the second device in response to the request and defining the subset of the multiple glyphs, the information not defining a remainder of the multiple glyphs other than the subset. The method includes generating on the first device a presentation of the electronic document using the received information, the presentation including the subset of the multiple glyphs.

Abstract:

Biological fluid samples containing proteins (e.g., blood plasma or saliva) are prepared for isotopic analysis by precipitating the proteins while leaving the isotopic ratio unaffected. This precipitation can involve adding metal ions, salts, organic solvents, or organic polymers. The sample is then centrifuged to allow transfer of the supernatant for isotopic analysis, e.g. by tunable diode laser absorption spectrometry to obtain a quantitative measure of the H and O isotope levels in the water relative to reference standards.

Abstract:

Methods and systems for assessing and/or treating visual disorders, such as discorder in accommodative ability and/or vergence ability, of a person are provided. Assessment and training exercises can be performed utilizing a computerized system in communication with a head-mountable display (HMD), such as a virtual or augmented reality display, which can display visual targets at various vergence and accommodative demands. Lenses, such as inverted bifocal lenses, may be used in combination with the HMD to mimic natural accommodative demand during viewing or to enable assessment and treatment of accommodation disorders. Corrective factors can be calculated and utilized for generation of visual targets to account for lens characteristics and/or interpupillary distance mismatch. Accommodation and vergence responses can be tracked during display of the visual targets at the various demands, and assessed in comparison to normalized values for assessment of vision disorders or utilized to track progress of user in treatment of a vision disorder.
