Honor & Awards:

Inside Looking Out: An Application of International and Regional Linguistic Protections to the U.S. Spanish-Speaking Minority, 87 Neb. L. Rev. 599 (2009). Ms. Torres has been honored twice by the ACLU of Southern California. Most recently in June, she was presented with the 2011 Courageous Advocacy Award in recognition of her work as co-counsel with the ACLU on Vasquez v. Rackauckas. In that case, she successfully represented a class of individuals challenging the enforcement of an Orange County gang injunction on procedural due process grounds. In 2010, she was presented with the ACLU’s Social Justice award for her work in litigation against the state of California for the failure of its agencies to properly enforce regulation protecting the rights of farm workers. The National Immigration Legal Center also recognized Ms. Torres in October 2010 for her litigation work challenging systemic delays in the processing of naturalization applications resulting from FBI background checks
