Abstract:

A connection system for a hand rail installation has particular applicability in connection with installing a hand rail unit comprising a top rail, a bottom rail and a plurality of balustrades to a pair of mounting posts. The ends of the top rail and the bottom rail are secured to the mounting posts by brackets. In some embodiments, the brackets have a flange-like sleeves and a recess defined by side rails which are engaged by the mounting clips. One support mounting clip employs three outwardly biased retention tabs which engage with a bracket installed over the end of the upper rail. Various top rail and bottom rail bracket configurations are disclosed.

Abstract:

A self-sealing fastener for sheathing having an integrated water and air resistant barrier employs an activatable sealant which is disposed in a non-activated state on the fastener. Upon driving the fastener into the sheathing, the sealant activates and forms a seal at the fastener/sheathing interface and also functions as a shock absorber to prevent overdriving of the fastener. The sealant may take numerous forms including a deformable gasket, a collar and a washer. In some embodiments, up activation, the sealant exhibits a tint which contrasts with the tint of the sheathing. Collated self-sealing fastener strips or cartridges of various forms provide a matrix of severable fasteners each having a sealant which are sequentially drivable by an automatic driver.

Abstract:

An alignment head for an automatic fastener feed installation tool employs a platform with spring biased retractable pins and a central opening. The retractable pins are spaced to protrude downwardly and engage opposing sides of a support joist. The central opening receives the fastener which is automatically positioned for driving at an entry position into a deck board overlying the joist. The fastener is drivable into the joist at a medial position of the joist and a pre-established position from the edge of a deckboard. The pins also define the spacing of the adjacent deck board. In one embodiment, the alignment head is employed for securing the deck boards at a consistent 45 angle to the joist.

Abstract:

A tension tie assembly for attachment of a first building member to a second building member under tension. The assembly includes a tie with a ball on one end that attaches to a first anchoring member on the first building member and a threaded stud on the opposite end that attaches to a second anchoring member on the second building member. A cable extends between the ball and the stud. The ball may be retained in a rotatable engagement by the first anchoring member. The force of tension on the tie can be adjusted after attachment to the first and second building members. The adjustability of tension can be provided by a threaded connection between sub-elements of the tie such a nut threaded to the stud.

Abstract:

An installation tool fastener is particularly adapted for fastening a top plate to a roof support member and other structural connections and is particularly adapted for use with an installation tool. The installation tool fastener has a head with a maximum head diameter and a recess for coupling with a drive coupler. The shank of the head has an unthreaded portion and a uniform thread which has a major diameter approximately equal to the maximum diameter of the head. The head preferably has a slight taper. The thread preferably has a 7.5 thread per inch pitch and a thread angle from approximately 25 to 45. In one embodiment for a 6 inch fastener, the thread length is approximately 5 inches and extends along the tapered distal tip.

Abstract:

An installation tool and fastener is particularly adapted for fastening a top plate to a roof support member and other structural connections. The installation tool comprises a telescopic tool assembly which transfers torque from a power driver tool to a fastener drive coupler. The installation tool has a receiver guide which is configured to concentrically guide a fastener into driver engagement with a fastener coupler. The coupler may have a driver tip with radial projections, a Philips driver tip or a square driver tip. In one embodiment, the installation tool fastener has a head with a maximum head diameter equal to the major thread diameter and a recess for coupling with the drive coupler.

Abstract:

An installation tool for fastening a top plate to a roof support member and other structural connections is adapted to drive threaded fasteners at a pre-established angle. The tool preferably includes a rotary driver assembly and a telescopic tube assembly. A guide head assembly is mounted adjacent the outer end of the telescopic tube assembly. Locating or reference structures function to properly precisely set the drive angle of the fastener. Various indicators mounted to the guide head indicate the flush position of a locating surface or reference structure. The flush indicators may employ a projection, a flag, an LED or an audio module.
