Abstract:

A method and apparatus for enabling a user to remotely select which communications device to use for a particular communications session from among a plurality of communication devices connected to standard residential telephone wiring. The user enters a predetermined signal from any of the devices connected to the residential wiring. The method of the present invention analyzes the signal and, depending on the state of a number of variables related to cost effective operation, selects which of the devices is the most economical for a particular communications session.

Abstract:

In one embodiment, a debugger for a hardware-implemented operating system that supports one or more processors includes a host debug and a user interface. The host debug is operable to connect to a kernel processing unit of the hardware-implemented operating system via a test interface such as a Joint Test Access Group (JTAG) interface, to request information concerning internal objects of the kernel processing unit during the operation of the processors, and to receive the requested information without disturbing the operation of the processors. The user interface is then used to present the requested information to the user. In one embodiment, the debugger further includes a target resident debug server that is scheduled by the kernel processing unit to execute debugging commands issued by the host debug (e. g. , a command to collect information resident in the processor's data space, a command to set a breakpoint, a command to respond to a breakpoint, etc. ). The target resident debug server executes the debugging commands without unreasonable interference with the operation of the processors.

Abstract:

The method and apparatus of the present invention discloses a communications server that may be simultaneously connected to and conversant with a plurality of wire-lined and wireless networks. The communications server of the present invention includes, among other things, a central processing unit, a network interface unit, and a memory to direct the operations of the server in such a way that communications sessions may be established between one or more users and one or more of the plurality of wire-lined or wireless networks. In a preferred embodiment, the communications sessions may be transacted between a variety of communication devices including a multi-mode wireless phone which identifies itself to the communications server and indicates to the communication server which of the plurality of wire-lined or wireless networks is to be used for a particular communications session.
