Abstract:

A diagnostic layer having a network of actuators and sensors may be incorporated into or on the surface of composite, metallic, and laminated materials for monitoring the structural health of the material. The diagnostic layer is adapted for detecting and measuring changes in the condition of the material, e. g. , the site and extent of damage in the material. In a preferred embodiment, piezoelectric devices are embedded in the diagnostic layer in a network, and serve as actuators and sensors. Signals emitted from the sensors in response to physical deformation, either by an impact or as a result of stress waves generated by the actuators, are diagnostic of the current condition of the diagnostic layer. The diagnostic layer is also adapted to monitor the curing process of a composite material and accurately determine when curing is complete. Methods for monitoring changes in conditions of a material are also disclosed.

A signal conduction channel having a first element that receives electrons at a first end from a vacuum environment, produces photons as the electrons are received, and propagates the photons along a length of the first element to a distal second end, and a second element that receives the photons from the second end of the first element, converts the photons to electrons, and multiplies the electrons, where no additional element is disposed between the second end of the first element and the second element, except optionally at least one of a photon-conductive epoxy, a lens, and an optical coupling plate that touches both the second end of the first element and the second element.

Abstract:

An electron beam apparatus is configured for dark field imaging of a substrate surface. Dark field is defined as an operational mode where the image contrast is sensitive to topographical features on the surface. A source generates a primary electron beam, and scan deflectors are configured to deflect the primary electron beam so as to scan the primary electron beam over the substrate surface whereby secondary and/or backscattered electrons are emitted from the substrate surface, said emitted electrons forming a scattered electron beam. A beam separator is configured to separate the scattered electron beam from the primary electron beam. The apparatus includes a cooperative arrangement which includes at least a ring-like element, a first grid, and a second grid. The ring-like element and the first and second grids each comprises conductive material. A segmented detector assembly is positioned to receive the scattered electron beam after the scattered electron beam passes through the cooperative arrangement.

Abstract:

A method for transforming a starting data structure into a resultant data structure is provided. The data structures may be embodied in any language or format, including the Extensible Markup Language (XML). The starting data structure is separated into segments. The transformation may be analyzed to determine which loops are top level and separable. The starting data structure may be analyzed to estimate the most costly loop, then separated along the most costly loop. Segments are transformed independently, and transformed segments are recombined to create the resultant data structure.

Abstract:

A Fibre Channel network is provided with an efficient implementation of the loop initialization process. In one embodiment, the network comprises nodes coupled by unidirectional serial communications links in a ring topology. The nodes typically include a serial communications transceiver, a transmit controller, a receive controller, and a memory unit. The serial communications transceiver operates to drive transmit signals on the outgoing serial communications link and to buffer receive signals from the incoming serial communications link. The memory unit includes transmit and receive buffers that are coupled to the transceiver via transmit and receive controllers. One or more of the nodes may also include a control register having an "autoswap" bit. The autoswap bit is initially reset to 0 when the node enters the initialization mode. When the autoswap bit is set to 1, the transmit and receive buffers exchange roles after every data frame so that received initialization data frames stored in the receive buffer are retransmitted by the transmitter controller.

Abstract:

A measuring device is provided for determining the position of a susceptor in a reactor housing. The measuring device includes a central element, which can be fastened on the susceptor at a predefined location, and a plurality of sensing arms, which protrude from the central element beyond an outer periphery of the susceptor. The sensing arms respectively include a sensing section that can be brought in touching contact with a contact zone. The contact zone is formed by an inner periphery of the reactor housing or a component arranged in the reactor housing. Using the measuring device, the position of a susceptor of a CVD reactor is determined relative to the reactor housing or a component arranged in the reactor housing.

Abstract:

Embodiments of the invention described herein include low cost infusion devices having basal and/or bolus fluid delivery options. Embodiments of the device include a housing, a reservoir to contain the fluid, a source of pressure to exert a force to expel the fluid contained in the reservoir, a bolus port adapted to receive an optional extra dose of fluid, and a cannula in fluid communication with the reservoir and the bolus port. The cannula is adapted for insertion into the user's skin for delivery of the fluid to the user's body. The device can provide a continuous delivery of the fluid along a first fluid flow path from the reservoir to the cannula and the optional extra dose of fluid along a second fluid flow path from the bolus port to the cannula.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for a connection interface between a reservoir or syringe, infusion set tubing, and an infusion pump is provided. The reservoir, a base and a cap are connected to form an integrated unit that is capable of being inserted and secured in an infusion pump housing. The cap and the infusion pump are each provided with at least one sensor or at least one detectable feature, arranged to interact with at least one corresponding detectable feature or sensor on the other of the cap and infusion pump device, to detect one or more of the presence, position or other characteristic of the cap when the cap is aligned or coupled with the infusion pump housing. The detectable feature and sensor may be magnetic, RF, mechanical, optical or any combination.
