Abstract:

A harness for use in windsurfing which includes an adjustable wrist strap for securing the harness to the wrist of the wearer, an elongated support connected at one end to the wrist strap and which includes a rigid end portion which defines a curved hook for capturing a generally rounded in section boom. The elongated support further includes an intermediate adjustable finger loop which enables an immediate unhooking of the end portion by a backward bending of the hand at the wrist pulling the hook out of engagement with the boom. The harness transfers some or all of the force required to hold the boom to the wearers forearm to reduce the effort required.

Abstract:

An attachment system for a boat cover using an insert strip press fit in a conventional rub rail channel fixed to the boat hull. The insert strip has a lengthwise slot which is configured to mate with a series of retainer elements attached about the perimeter of the cover. Each retainer element has a portion configured to be received in the insert strip slot and locked thereto by being turned sideways. In one embodiment, the retainers have a flattened pin which can be pushed into the insert strip slot and turned, a larger head portion thereby fit to a larger interior section of the slot to be locked therein. In another embodiment the retainer elements each have a pair of spread projections which are compressed together to be able to be pushed in through the slot entry section and which spring apart in the interior slot section, to be locked therein. A threaded pin can be advanced between the projections to produce a positive spreading of the projections. Racks and battens can also be attached to the insert strip using the same retainer elements.

Abstract:

An energy-absorbing deformable structure to attach a child safety seat to a mounting portion of a vehicle comprises a bracket. The bracket includes a base configured to be coupled to the mounting portion of the vehicle, a metal strap positioned in the base such that a first end of the metal strap is configured to be free and coupled to the child safety seat, a second end of the metal strap is separably attached to the base, and a body of the metal strap is bent between the first end and the second end. When the metal strap is pulled in tension, the metal strap tears from the base, thereby absorbing energy.

A child safety seat tether anchor for securing a child safety seat to a mounting portion of a vehicle is provided. The child safety seat tether anchor may comprise a metal strip cooperating with a plurality of vertically offset pins extending from a surface of an engagement structure and positioned along a length of the metal strip. The metal strip is bent by the plurality of pins along a length of the metal strip so that when pulled in tension, the metal strip slides while bending around the pins to absorb energy.

Abstract:

An energy absorbing anchor for securing a child safety seat to a mounting portion of a vehicle and coupling to a tether of the child safety seat is provided. The energy absorbing anchor comprises a bracket including a first end having a tether coupling portion, and a tapered hole having a wide portion adjacent to the first end and a narrow portion opposite to the first end; and a protrusion extending through the tapered hole to secure the bracket to the mounting portion of the vehicle wherein the protrusion is positioned to be adjacent to the wide portion of the tapered hole and wherein the narrow portion of the tapered hole is narrower than a width of the protrusion; wherein, when the bracket is pulled in tension, the protrusion is drawn along a length of the tapered hole towards the narrower portion, thereby deforming a portion of walls of the tapered hole to widen the tapered hole, the walls of tapered hole being configured to increasingly absorb energy as a width of the tapered hole decreases.

Abstract:

A concentric needle device for transfer of liquids from within a vial sealed with a septum. The concentric needle device for transfer of liquids includes two concentric needles. An outer needle is provided as a gas inlet and an inner needle is provided as a fluid outlet. An annulus is defined between the inner and outer needles, and through which gas enters the vial. Liquid exits through the inner needle once the terminal end is positioned in contact with or below the surface of the liquid in the vial and gas is forced through the annulus. The terminal end of the inner needle, or the fluid outlet, is disposed at a point lower than the terminal end of the outer needle, or the gas inlet. By disposing the needles concentrically, a smaller gauge needle is used for liquid transfer. When the inner needle is placed in contact with the vial septum and an axial force is placed thereon, bending of the inner needle is limited by the outer needle. By reducing the needle diameter, coring of the septum is reduced; closer monitoring of the flow rate of the fluid through the inner needle is effectuated; and the effect of sudden pressure changes is reduced, thus providing more control during the liquid delivery. Further, because the smaller gauge inner needle forms a pilot hole for the larger gauge outer needle, coring of the septum by the outer needle is also reduced.

Abstract:

A harness for use in windsurfing which includes an adjustable wrist strap for securing the harness to the wrist of the wearer, a grip support which includes a rigid support structure which is curved for comfort and for securing the grip of a generally round or oval boom, and the grip support further including an adjustable finger securer. The rigid support structure is further curved for providing easy release of the boom, when necessary, by the lifting of the fingers being secured by the finger securer. The adjustable finger securer allows the wearer to extend the fingers being secured for resting the wearer's hands while still being in control of the boom. The harness transfers some or all of the force required to keep the boom engaged to the wears wrist, thereby enabling the wearer to participate in the sport for a longer period of time.
