A building protection system includes a switch, a transmitter, a receiver and a controllable shut-off valve disposed within the inlet line of a utility, such as water or gas, provided to a building. The switch is used to close or open the shut-off valve to stop the flow of the utility into the building. The receiver is proximate the valve, while the transmitter and switch are remote from the valve. In one embodiment, the switch is a manual switch that can be used to generate a valve open or a valve closed signal. The switch and transmitter can be wall-mounted, such as in a garage, or can be integrated into a hand-held device, such as a remote control. In other embodiments, the switch is associated with a condition sensor, such as for sensing a utilities leak or for sensing a temperature outside a certain pre-determined limit value. In still further embodiments, the building protection system includes an auto-dialer for automatically dialing a pre-determined list of phone numbers in response to a sensed condition or in response to closing the utility shut-off valve.
A dock pit for a dock leveler mechanism comprises a pre-cast concrete body including integrally formed side, rear panel and front panels, all forming a continuous perimeter open therethrough to receive the load leveler mechanism. Each side panel has a top edge and the rear panel has a rear edge offset below the of the side panel top edges, whereby a concrete slab poured around the body will abut the rear panel edge with the surface of the concrete slab substantially flush with the top edge of each side panel. The side panels define a recess along their length that is situated between the top edge of the side panel and the rear edge of the rear panel, whereby the concrete slab poured around the pre-cast body will integrate within the recesses on each said side panel. The dock slab can be poured using the pre-cast pit as a form.

A slab protector is provided in the form of a sheet of material configured to overlap an edge of a newly poured slab to protect that slab while an adjacent slab is poured and surface finished. The sheet of material extends along the entire length of the edge impacted by the adjacent pour and is configured to have an overhang portion that extends down over the exposed side of the slab. The sheet also includes a primary portion that overlays a significant portion of the surface of the poured slab. The slab protector sheet is preferably formed of a plastic material and includes an adhesive strip on its underside that removably and temporarily adheres the slab protector to the underlying concrete slab to resist dislodgement.
A composite sound barrier panel includes a concrete substrate provided for strength and a noise attenuation layer bonded thereto. The noise attenuation layer in one embodiment is a concrete mixture of a fiber composite material and cement. In another embodiment, recycled wood chips are added to the mixture. A plurality of identical panels are pre-cast in a mold for use in forming a noise abatement wall, particularly between a residential neighborhood and a highway.
The concepts disclosed herein provide for a concrete mold that improves upon existing concrete molds known in the art. The hinged side-panel members that are locked to a hold-down frame allow for the mold to cure a concrete member, and then allow the concrete member to be removed without the need to break-down the frame surrounding the concrete member. During the pouring and ensuing curing process of the concrete member, the hinged side-panel members are secured to the hold-down frame and to each other in order to hold the concrete in the mold. Once the concrete is cured, the hinged side-panel members may be unlocked and opened quickly, allowing for expedient removal of the concrete member. After closing and re-locking the hinged side-panel members, the mold may be reused to cure another concrete member without the need to rebuild the frame around the mold.
A mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) system includes a vertically oriented wall offset from an earthen feature, backfill disposed between the wall and the earthen feature, and a plurality of anchor elements attached at one end to the wall and extending from the wall toward the earthen feature. The plurality of anchor elements are embedded within the backfill and include an elongated strap having an attachment end configured for attachment to the MSE wall and opposite surfaces along the length thereof. The anchor element further includes a plurality of punched openings along the length of the strap, each opening including a punched tab projecting outward from one of the opposite surfaces.

Abstract:
The process for removing paint from a part comprises the steps of immersing the part in a chemical bath containing a chemical solution effective to strip the paint from the part, and directing an aerated jet spray of the chemical solution onto the part immersed in the chemical bath. The chemical solution is recirculated through the bath and through a filter and heater. The process permits the use of low toxicity chemical solutions, such as sodium hydroxide. The system includes a tank defining a dip chamber with a fluid recirculation path connected outside said tank to recirculate the chemical through the chemical bath. A plurality of spray nozzles are supported within the tank, and are oriented to direct a jet spray of the chemical solution through the chemical bath and onto the process part in a manner effective to strip the coating from the part.
