Abstract:

The present invention provides a heel pad for reducing the likelihood of decubitus ulcers on a patient's heels when the patient is lying on a mattress, the heel pad including, a cushion adapted to rest on the mattress beneath the calves of the patient, wherein the cushion has a front, a rear, a top, a bottom and a pair of ends, the cushion including a core layer having an arched profile, wherein the core tapers downward toward the front and the rear, and a top layer covering the core layer, the top layer being softer than the core layer, and thicker toward the front and rear edges, wherein the top of the cushion tapers downwardly toward the rear.

Abstract:

A method is described for attaching a monitoring device to a patient comprising providing a fastener having a frame defining an opening adapted to receive a reel in a button hole fashion; inserting the reel behind a portion of the patient's clothing; positioning the frame on the opposite side of the portion of the patient's clothing relative to the reel and inserting the reel into the opening trapping the portion of material between the reel and the frame; and attaching the monitoring device to the fastener by a tether.

Abstract:

A patient monitoring system including a migration sensor that includes a compressible member that defines a chamber at least partially filled with fluid and a pressure sensor in fluid communication with the member. The member is attached to the mattress at a selected location to detect movement of the patient. The monitoring system includes a controller that monitors the pressure sensor, and is adapted to notify a care giver upon detecting a selected pressure change within the member.
