Antifungal compounds represented by formula I where R, R, Rand Rare as defined herein. Isolated or purified naturally occurring 20,21-dihydro ambruticin compounds. The invention also provides ambM, ambO, ambP, and ambS mutant strains; a recombinant strain that produces 24-norambruticin compounds; and a method for treating a fungal infection using a compound of this invention.
