Abstract:

Optics used in a high vacuum environment are mounted by bonding by use of addition polymerizing material which used in that environment. The suitability for use in the high vacuum environment is achieved by precise control of outgassing of trapped and dissolved gases, including low molecular weight hydrocarbons and amines, and unreacted material from component parts of said addition polymerizing material. A plurality of application quantities of the polymer are prepared in a large batch for use as pre-mixed frozen (PMF) material. The use of the large batch enables more precise control of mixture so that near-stoichiometric proportions of the polymer components are easily achieved.

Abstract:

A method to reduce undesirable outgassing includes bonding at least two optical components with a bonding material and encapsulating the bonding material with a capping material. The capping material inhibits the outgassing of species that would otherwise be emitted from the bonding material to the surrounding. In one example, the bonding material is silicone and the capping material is epoxy.

An interferometer includes a source of a heterodyne beam including frequency components having frequency components with orthogonal linear polarizations. A beam splitter separates frequency components of the heterodyne beams, and one or more AOMs increase the frequency separation between the separated beams. The separated beams can be sent via optical fibers to a beam-combining unit, which combines the beams for use in interferometer optics.

A manipulator for a fiber optic cable assembly (FOCA) provides microradian accuracy in control of the direction of a beam emanating from the FOCA. Such manipulators can control FOCAs to control the incidence angles of beams at a beam combiner in a beam-combining unit. Accordingly, fewer additional optical elements are required for control of input paths in the beam-combining unit. The manipulator and the beam-combining unit are accurate enough for use in an interferometer that combines beams with different frequencies and polarizations. One such interferometer includes a Zeeman split laser providing a heterodyne beam. A beam splitter separates frequency components of the beams, and AOMs increase the frequency separation between the separated beams. Abstract:

Spatially-separated heterodyne interferometer architecture is combined with monolithic glass construction techniques to provide a monolithic, spatially-separated, common-path interferometer. The monolithic interferometer includes multiple optical components bonded together into a monolithic structure. The bonded components provide both optics and structure for the interferometer, thereby producing a small, compact, and light-weight interferometry system. Beam splitters and combiners are provided on the interfaces between the optical components to direct and combine signal measurement, signal reference and local oscillator beams used in the interferometry system. The spatially-separated architecture reduces cyclic error values below those of polarization-separated interferometers. In addition, the monolithic architecture of the interferometer minimizes the impact of mechanical, thermal, and optical variations within the system.

Abstract:

A tilting kinematic mount having optics which may be precisely positioned so as to direct light or other energy to a number of measuring devices. Optic carrying tilting plates, interleaved with stationary plates are moved by linear actuators. An arrangement of balls and grooves establishes positioning of the tilting plates in a kinematic mount relative to the stationary plates, thus achieving the precise rearrangement of optical elements relative to a central axis and the redirection of the energy beam onto the sensing devices.
