Abstract:

In one example, a device for receiving information for multimedia data, the device comprising one or more processors configured to analyze at least a portion of a manifest file for multimedia content, wherein the portion of the manifest file includes information indicative of sets of representations of the multimedia content and information indicative of common characteristics for each of the sets of representations, select one of the sets of representations based on the common characteristics for the one of the sets of representations, select one of the representations of the selected one of the sets of representations based on one or more coding characteristics of the one of the representations of the one of the sets, and generate a request for data of the one of the representations based on the selection.

In one example, a device for retrieving multimedia data, the device comprising one or more processors configured to retrieve data of a first segment of a representation of multimedia content in accordance with data of a copy of a manifest file stored by the device, retrieve a portion of a second segment of the representation in accordance with the manifest file, wherein the second segment occurs after the first segment in the representation, and wherein the portion of the second segment indicates that the manifest file is to be updated, update the copy of the manifest file stored by the device based on the indication that the manifest file is to be updated, and retrieve media data of the second segment in accordance with the updated manifest file.

Abstract:

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for ensuring electronic communications have not been intercepted and manipulated. An exemplary device generates a public/private pair of keys, and transmits the public key to another device with information about the data to be shared. The second device encrypts associated data, while also executing a hash function on at least a portion of the data. The first device receives the encrypted data, decrypts it, and verifies its accuracy using a third party. The third party also executes the hash function on the data received from the first device, and transmits the output of that hash function to the first device. Both the first device and second devices and display the hash values, allowing users to visually determine if the data has been manipulated during the transaction.

Described is a system (and method) for automating the process of generating variations of a website that may be continually evaluated to improve a user interaction flow. The process may be based on a genetic algorithm that creates improving generations of websites. For example, the system may automate the creation of different layouts for a website and evaluate the effectiveness of each layout based on a particular user interaction goal. The most effective (e.g., top performing) layouts may be determined and then “bred” as part of an iterative improvement process.
