The present invention is a restraining assembly which prevents a potential burglar from lifting an outward swing door from its respective doorframe after removing the exposed hinge pins. A female bushing is provided which is recessed into the hinge side door edge and expands to interlock within the door at the door edge as a male pin is fully engage within said female member. A head portion of the male member is left protruding and extending beyond the hinge side door edge allowing said protrusion to enter an opposing recess cavity in the adjoining doorframe upon the door being rotated to a closed position. Whereas one restraining assembly itself will prevent an outward swing door from being removed, it is understood that two or more assemblies may be utilized for added durability should a burglar exert a more vigorous force in an effort to pry out the door.
A door restraining assembly for use with a door hingedly connected to a surrounding door frame. At least one pin member includes a cylindrically shaped body and is positioned within a recess drilled into either or both a hinge side and door side of a door. A seating portion extends laterally from the pin member past the door surface. At least one receiving member includes a pin receiving portion and a reduced diameter reinforcing portion and is mounted within a corresponding recess drilled within the door jamb. The recess for the reinforcing portion extends well past the door jamb and through one or more of the vertically extending wall studs of the wall structure surrounding the door frame. According to further embodiments, a restraining assembly is provided on each the hinge side and latch side of the door frame. A method for installing a restraining assembly according to the present invention is also disclosed.
Apparatus For A Door Frame Reinforcement And Method For Installing
The invention provides a reinforcement for a door hingedly connected to a surrounding door frame mounted in a wall structure not normally made of 2×4 wall studs; said structures being smaller in thickness end depth such as in doors with sidelight glass. A male pin member, positioned within a recess drilled into either or both a hinge side and knob side of a door edge, extends laterally past the door edge surface. A receiving member mounted within a corresponding recess drilled within a door jamb includes a pin receiving portion and a reduced diameter reinforcing portion. The reduced diameter portion is tubular in shape to accept a threaded fastener entering through the receiving portion to secure the receiving member in position. The tubular reinforcing portion is of such length to enter the wall structure hot not break through an adjacent glass or panel.
