An apparatus including a passenger carrier attached to a cart. The cart includes a support structure and a cart basket. The passenger carrier includes a seat portion. The apparatus includes a first set of swivel caster wheels near a front portion of the apparatus, a second set of non-swivel caster wheels located generally where the passenger carrier is connected to the cart, and a third set of swivel caster wheels located near a rear portion of the apparatus. The apparatus includes an upper portion in a first position that can be displaced to a second position to form an opening sized to receive a front portion of another cart basket in a nested configuration.

A shopping cart having a base frame supported by at least one front wheel and a pair of rear wheels. At least one basket is supported on the base frame. The basket has a plurality of side walls defining a basket perimeter and a bottom wall located at a height above the base frame. A protected location is positioned substantially within the basket perimeter. An entrance through the basket perimeter provides ingress and egress to the protected location.
